Tornado Vies At Roseburg Friday Night Medford senior high's cagers travel to Roseburg for a non conference clash with the Indians at 8:15 p.m. Friday and both teams are slated to play each other on the Black Tornado's floor at the same time Saturday evening. Coach Frank Roelandt has been working his team out each morning this week in prepara tion for the games with drills held then instead of late in the afternoon because of school be ing out. Teachers are correcting examination papers this week. The local coach said his boys looked pretty good for the first few minutes of the game against Central Point last week but then for some unexplainable reason had more than a little difficulty in hitting the basket for points. Medford won the conference game 31-25. Chances are that the usual lineup of Connie Holzgang and Jack Morris at guards, Don Den man or Don Wilkinson at center and Bob Shores and Larue Smith at forwards will start. He was just as pleasant a sur prise to the people of this town when he came here as coach at the beginning of the season. He was considered one of the top men to work with a local team. Eagles Play Ashland Friday, MP Saturday Eagle Point, Feb. 2 Eagle Point high will travel to Ashland for a Soul hern Oregon conference-district 4 basketball game Friday night and Myrtle Creek will be at the Eagle Point gym for a J-D-J league game Saturday night. The Eagles currently are un defeated in the J-D-J conference and are among the leaders in the Southern Oregon conference and district contests also. OAK GROVE BASKETBALL Oak Grove school's gym will be the scene of two grade school basketball games Friday when the Grovers play Lone Pine school fives starting at 7 p.m. The fifth and sixth grades com bine to play at 7 p.m. and the seventh grade quintets will clash starting at 8:15. Hamilton found that Canadian players had "more stamina" than their American counterparts. "These Canadian kids," he said, - "are tall, big, and fast. And where Canadian basketball players have had the proper training, they're every bit as good as those in the States." Hamilton believed that In the past, Canadians had not been getting the training received by American basketball players "but they're getting it now, and they're coming along." Played Against Pros Hamilton's Green Acres have played against American profes sional teems in exhibition matches and the "team stands up very well asalnst the pros, We've won more than our share of the games." Wade Sixth In Scoring Chico. Cal.. Feb. 2 Keith Wade, high-scoring center and captain of Southern Oregon col lege DasKctDau team, ranks sixth among Far Western con ference scorers according to lat est official statistics here. Wade has tallied 38 field coals and 23 free throws from the foul line for 95 points, in six trames or an average of 15.9 points per game. He ranks sixth in total points scored and third in his average points per game. John Barger of SOC is eighth in the conference with a 68 point total in six games or 11.3 points per game while Gordon Neideigh of the Red Haiders Is 10th with with a 53 point total in six games and an B.6 average. Ford Leading Scoring Rush Several changes in the stand ings of leading scorers in the Southern Oregon conference were noted today as unofficial statistics put Pat Ford (Grants Pass) in the lead with 44 points in four games for an average of 11 per game so far. Last week's unofficial statis tics gave Eagle Point's Lloyd Hale the lead. This week finds Hale dropped to 11th In the race as he has 32 in four games for an eight average. Second to Ford is his team mate Vern Craft with 41 points In four games for a 10.3 average and is tied with Pat Simmons. Eagle Point, who has made the same total and similar average. Dick Smith, Ashland, is next with 57 points in six games, Jack Morris (Medford) was 47 In five games, Jerry Langer, (Ashland) 56 in six games, Tom Schubert (Klamath) 55 in six, Bob Shores (Medford) 45 in five and Mike Trautman is ninth with 43 points in five contests. Albany Hi Cage Coach Quits Job Albany, Ore., Feb. 2 (U.R) Bob Buchanan, Albany high school basketball coach, has re signed, effective immediately. Buchanan yesterday submit ted his resignation to the Albany school board. He explained: "I feel the division of my time between basketball coaching and my work as head of the biology department and Jurisdiction over 200 biology students does an in justice to both activities." School Superintendent I. R. Halseth said no successor had been named. Albany's basketball team has a season record of 15 defeats and one victory. Pointers Slate Home Games Saturday Night Central Point, Feb. 2 Cen tral Point hieh's basketball team will travel to Myrtle Creek for a J-D-J conference game Friday evening and will be host to Ash land high in a Southern Oregon conference-district 4 clash Sat urday night. The Pointers have lost but one J-D-J league game and that went to Eagle Point which to date is undefeated in this conference. Central Point has failed to win a game In Southern Oregon con ference and district competition so far. BOWLING W. Kurth of Werner's Brick layers team In the Commercial Bowling league took high series and high game honors for indlv uals last night when the loop bowled at the Medford Bowling lanes. LADIES LEAGUE Audrey Swoape captured In dividual high series Tuesday night with a 495 when the La dies' Bowling league rolled at the Medford Bowling lanes, while Lois Learning's 191 was high individual game for that night's bowling. Ashland Council To Meet With Copco Men Ashland, Feb. 2 The Ashland city council has scheduled a meeting for 8 p.m. today with representatives oi me uaniornia Oregon Power company for dis cussions regarding possible pur chase of Bellview annex power rights. Ashland expects to re ceive additional revenue if it could control the Bellview area. The council is also planning meetings with Bonneville Power administration officials to dis cuss the relative merits of Copco and BPA power on the possibil ity that Bonneville power might eventually be brought into this region. No record was available on how many got off here. The local office said that 644 pounds of mail were out on board Southwest planes here and 873 pounds were received.
