Padllla. While there they will attend the an nual Mardi Gras. Air Training Pvt M. Charles Rock, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Rock, Jacksonville, and Pvt. William S. Medley, son of Mrs. W. B. Medley, route 2, box 20, Central Point, have begun the air force basic airmen indoctrina tion course at Lackland air force base, San Antonio, Tex., the air base public information office has reported. Also attend ing the meeting was H. G. Tur ner from the Ford Company plant, Richmond, Cal. To Portland Charles Hoi brook, Jackson county service officer, left today for Portland to attend a meeting of the state department of veterans affairs. Chamb ers, 130 West Main street. . ' In Hospital Keith Barshaw son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Bar shaw, Jacksonville, underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday evening at Osteopathic hospital. He is reported to be recovering satisfactorily. Improving R. F, Kyle, 609 South Oakdale avenue who has been confined to the Community hospital, is reported to be im proving satisfactorily and is ex pected to be released from the hospital in the next few days. Change Hour Central Point Garden club will meet tomorrow at 12:45 p. m. rather than at 1:30 p. in. as was originally planned, it was announced today by the club. The session will be at the home of Mrs. E. W. Jermark, Freeman road. To Meet A meeting of the marine corps reserve will be held Wednesday, February 1, at 7:30 p. m., in the Federal build ing, North Riverside and Sixth street. All ex-marines are invit ed to attend, whether members of the reserve or not, it is stated. Meeting Postponed Medford Council of Parents and Teachers today reminded the public that the lecture appearance here of Don A. fcmerson. originally set for tonight, has been postponed until February 9 at the Roosevelt school. Emerson, representing the state Doara oi education, will lead a discussion on modern trends in education. Surrenders Salvador Luna Escamilla, 17, El Madera. Cal., placed himself in custody of city police last night, Police said the youth told them that he escaped irom the prison youth authority at San Francisco in September and had been in Medford about two weeks. He was taken before the juvenile officer this morning. In Nebraska Mrs. Harry V. Funeral arrangements are in care of Conger-Morris funeral home. PAUL GRAVELL Paul Gravell, Central Point, passed away at a local hospital Sunday. Mr. Gravell was born in West Warren, Mass., on Aug. 13, 1867, and was aged 82 years at his death. He is survived by one sister who lives in California, and other relatives in the east. Funeral services will be con ducted from Perl funeral home, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Very Rev. John M. Berger, pastor of the Sacred Heart Cath olic church, officiating. Inter ment will take place in Siskiyou Memorial park. Rogue River QUINN To Mr. and Mrs. John, Central Point, Jan. 29, 1950. a girl, 6-1 lbs., at Sacred Heart hospital. PLEADS GUILTY Eugene Donald Erikson, 22-year-old Shady Cove youth, pleaded guilty in county court yesterday to a charge of larceny of a motor vehicle. He is accused of taking a 1937 Ford coupe from the Leever Motor company lot here on November 12. Sen tencing has been continued for a report on his record. The Wednesday potluck sup pers at Hope Presbyterian church which were interrupted by the storm have been resumed. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Kilbourn and Mrs. Annie Laurie Kilbourn of Central Point, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Williams. The ladies are accomplished mu sicians and played a piano duct. At the insistence of the appre ciative audience four selections were played. A short scripture reading concluded the evening's program. Mrs. Frarfk Marshall and daughter, Lila, have returned from Portland and the Marshalls are much encouraged by the doctors' reports on Lila's prog ress. Mary Gage and Jean Kile left Thursday for Los Angeles to visit Mary's relatives. They plan on being gone for two or three weeks. Rogue River business licenses arc due January 31, according to Chief of Police Rudy Seiger. All persons operating a business in the city limits are requested to make prompt aymenpt. At request of Mayor Fred Denglar and the city council, Lloyd Smith constructed four new benches for the city hall and visitors will be assured of com fortable seats and a courteous welcome, though the atmosphere mav be chilly. ! Bids are expected to be near $20,000,000. Hollywood, Jan!31 (U.R) Blonde Film Star Lana Turner, off the screen nearly two years since her marriage to Asbestos Heir Bob Topping, starts work today on MGM's "A Life of Her Own." Frank Babb of Elma, Wash., who had visited the Babbs in Rogue River last Thanksgiving. He died of a heart attack January 18. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Miller of North Broadway are happy at finding their valuable hunting dog, Duke. He had tired of an inactive city life and had taken up residence on an Evans creek ranch. Mayor Fred Denclar's family have been quite concerned over his eye Injury, but report he is out of danger now. Denglar was pruning a tall fruit trees in lus back yard and when lower ing the extension ladder, the up per half kicked back and struck him in the eye, inflicting two deep gashes, one in his eyebrow and the other one lust under it. Mrs. R. W. Hargitt has been hclumc her husband for the past five weeks on the rural mail route. She reports he is much better and she is thankful to re main at home. Prominent points in her story dealt with the fairness of the drawing of names, the high character of the program and of the management and escorts of the night club tour.
