DONKEY BASKETBALL THURSDAY Central Point high's gym will be the scene of a donkey basketball game Thursday at 8 p.m. when the C. P. Lions club plays a high school alumni all-star team. Money from the game will go toward the high school field lighting fund. A prelim at 6:30 will send the Central Point sixth and seventh graders against a similar team from Phoenix grade scnooi. atom Rogue River Dime Benefit Rogue River, Jan. 25 A March of Dimes benefit basket ball eame here last night be tween jayvee and varsity teams from Rogue River and Ashland high schools ' netted the polio fund about $60, it was announc ed today. The opener saw the Ashland junior varsity cop the decision in the final minutes of the fourth quarter 39 to 37 after the Chief tains had led 30 to 27 at the end of the third period. Rogue Varsity Wins Rogue River high's varsity took the decision in the second game 48 to 40 after leading 16 to 9 at the first quarter, the score was tied 25 to 25 at the half and the Chieftains held a 33 to 30 lead at the third quarter pause. Gene Depuy and Dick Smith with 15 points each for Rogue River and Ashland respectively led the game scoring. School Superintendent Alf Mekvold expressed Rogue Riv er's appreciation to Ashland high for playing the game and doing so on such short notice. Sandlot Baseball Champ Game to Start on May 7 Chicago, Jan. 25 U.R The 1950 sandlot baseball season will be kicked off May 7 with the first game of a best-of-seven series between the 1949 United States and Canadian champions, National Baseball congress of ficials announced today. Fort Wayne, Ind., the United States champions, and Kitchen er, Ont., Canadian champs, will clash in the international series on National Baseball day. Oregon State Freshmen Cagers To Play Friday Corvallis, Jan. 24 Oregon Slate's promising freshman bas ketball team, with a split behind it in the opening series against the touted Oregon Frosh last week-end, is slated to go into ac tion only once this week. Paul Valenti's Orange year lings will host Astoria high school in Gill coliseum Friday at 4 p.m. Another contest for .: Saturday may be scheduled. Roy Hewitt Takes First Leg in Pistol Handicap Roy- Hewitt won the first leg last night in competition for the new handicap trophy in the pis tol division of the Kfedford Rifle club. Jim Bolton headed the first five in the regular pistol shoot ing with 257. Other top shooters were Cliff Friend 253, Paul Stage 250, Clinton Charley 240 and Enid Friend 231. Twenty shooters participated. Oak Grove 'Chili Feed' And Basketball Slated A chili feed for parents, friends and students and three basketball games played by grade school teams will be fea tured starting at 5:30 p.m. today in the Oak Grove school with proceeds going toward buying trophies. The first game at 6:30 will send the Oak Grove sixth grad ers against the West Side sixth grade quintet, followed at 7:30 by the seventh graders playing the Griffin Creek seventh grade team and at 8:30 when the re spective eighth grade quintets are slated for a game. January SJ. 1930 MEDFORD (OREQOW) MAIL TMBUHE FTVE New Snow Reported At Crater Lake Park There are three inches of new powder snow on top of a total snow pack of 114 inches at Crater Lake National park, it was learned here today. Radio reports said the total season's snowfall to date is 251 inches. The maximum temperature at the park in the past 24 hours was nine degrees and the minimum was four degrees. At 10:30 a.m. today the sky was overcast and it was snowing lightly. . Both the south and west en trance roads to the park are open but chains are required, it was reported. The rim road is closed. !
