Harlem Globetrotters basket ball team, one of the most fa mous of all traveling clubs, will meet an all-star quintet from the local AAU Basketball league at the senior high gym Thursday night, February 2, Rogue Valley Baseball, Inc., sponsors, said Saturday. Permission has been gained by the local AAU league from the alato organization to choose an all-slar squad with money the all-stars receive going toward paying league expenses and fending the district champion. Swing Team Big Problem Philadelphia, Jan. 23 (U.R) Professional football's a-borning National American league today turned its attention to the tick lish problem of setting up two divisions today after its mam moth draft of 390 college players. The 13 teams must divide into separate circuits1 of six teams each with the remaining club assigned a "swing schedule" against members of both divi sions. That "swing" assignment was a big stumbling block be cause no one wanted it. New Ideas Show Up Originally it was planned to make Baltimore the swing team. However, new ideas crop up every minute the league is in session. Some club owners now want the Cleveland Browns to become the swing team because they are such a box-office draw, especially in national football league cities which never saw them during the operation of the defunct all-America conference. Other owners want each year s league champion to become the swing team the following season. Should the 13 club owners tail to agree on a division by the re quired 11 to 2 vote, League Com missioner Bert Bell will step in and make the division personal ly. He was called upon to set up the draft rules after the owners squabbled fruitlessly over them for hours. Baseball Clinic At K.F. On Feb. 4 Klamath Falls, Jan. 23 Klamath Falls will be the site of one of four baseball clinics to be held in Oregon when instruct ors yet lo be named meet here Saturday. February 4, it was announced today. It will be the only baseball clinic in southern Oregon. Subjects to be considered will include conditioning, building offense and defense, posture at plate, pitfalls of batters, how to correct batting defects, base run ning, importance of hits, slid ing, stealing, pitching and the like. Every coach of an amateur team will be welcome with only a small cost being charged as registration fee. Clinic will start In the morn ing and run straight through the day with breaks only for meals, those in charge said. Davidson To Clash Thursday On Davidson to headline next Thurs day night's wrestling card at the armory which will introduce the 1950 season. The match has been in the making for a long time ever since Lipscomb attacked David son, a spectator, one night here several weeks ago. Davidson has been seeking a chance at the Eugene tavern keeper since then but has received a cold shoulder from the former Hoosier. It was only when Lillard and Davidson got together to give Lipscomb such an attractive offer that he Rogue Basin Fishing Laws Tentatively Set By Group Grants Pass. Jan. 23 Tenta tive fishing regulations affecting the Rogue river remain primar ily the same as in 1949, Cole Rivers, state game commission representative in southern Ore gon, announced here Saturday. Proposed changes include op ening the Illinois river to silver salmon fishing from the mouth upstream to a point 400 feet be low Pomerov dam. A season on silvers is proposed from Sep tember 1 to November 30. Illinois Season Set Stcclhead season was changed on the Illinois to open October 1 instead of December 15 as in 1949. Daily bag-limits in the Rogue for salmon rqmain the same but the weekly limit was changed from four to five. All other open areas, seasons and limits remain unchanged for the Rogue basin, tentative regulations state. Elimination of the Kogue reg ulation forbidding night-angling for catfish was considered but the regulation was retained for reasons of law entorcement. Relative to Diamond lake, the 10-inch minimum size limit for the lake was dropped and the opening date set lor June 1. Salmon Card Issue A salmon and stcclhead limit card is proposed to limit the catch of steelhead and salmon over 20 inches long to 20 fish per vear In all waters of Oregon.
