local AAU Basketball league at

Baseball, Inc., sponsors, said
Saturday.
Permission has been gained by
the local AAU league from the

their arguments about the two
minute rule today and took up
the case of Pitt's basketball "fili
buster" against Penn State.
..The Niltany Lions came off
with a fairly respectable 34-21
victory on their home court at
Stale college. Pa., Saturday
night, but only after sweating
through an embarrassing 5-0
halftimc lead. The Panthers froze
the ball for nearly 18 minutes of
the first half, not taking a shot.
They'll try it again Wednesday
when the teams next play.
The "deep freeze' brought
varied comment.
"It was a lot of fun," said Dr.
H. C. Carlson, Pitt coach.
"We didn't mind the freeze;

Big Problem

Professional football's a-borning
National American league today
turned its attention to the tick
lish problem of setting up two
divisions today after its mam
moth draft of 390 college players.
The 13 teams must divide into
separate circuits1 of six teams
each with the remaining club
assigned a "swing schedule"
against members of both divi
sions. That "swing" assignment
was a big stumbling block be
cause no one wanted it.
New Ideas Show Up
Originally it was planned to
make Baltimore the swing team.
However, new ideas crop up
every minute the league is in
session. Some club owners now
want the Cleveland Browns to
become the swing team because
they are such a box-office draw,
especially in national football
league cities which never saw
them during the operation of the
defunct all-America conference.
Other owners want each year s
league champion to become the
swing team the following season.
Should the 13 club owners tail
to agree on a division by the re
quired 11 to 2 vote, League Com
missioner Bert Bell will step in
and make the division personal
ly. He was called upon to set up
the draft rules after the owners
squabbled fruitlessly over them
for hours.
Baseball Clinic

Klamath Falls will be the site of
one of four baseball clinics to
be held in Oregon when instruct
ors yet lo be named meet
here Saturday. February 4, it
was announced today. It will
be the only baseball clinic in
southern Oregon.
Subjects to be considered will
include conditioning, building
offense and defense, posture at
plate, pitfalls of batters, how to
correct batting defects, base run
ning, importance of hits, slid
ing, stealing, pitching and the
like.
Every coach of an amateur
team will be welcome with only
a small cost being charged as
registration fee.
Clinic will start In the morn
ing and run straight through
the day with breaks only for
meals, those in charge said. Site
of the clinic here probably will
be the baseball park where the
Klamath Gems of the pro Fat
West league play.

tentative regulations state.
Elimination of the Kogue reg
ulation forbidding night-angling
for catfish was considered but
the regulation was retained for
reasons of law entorcement.
Relative to Diamond lake, the
10-inch minimum size limit for
the lake was dropped and the
opening date set lor June 1.
Salmon Card Issue
A salmon and stcclhead limit
card is proposed to limit the
catch of steelhead and salmon
over 20 inches long to 20 fish per
vear In all waters of Oregon. No
split is contemplated for spring
and fall rlsh, however.
