J- ems Dale Odom To Headline Feb. 1 Card An elimination match to ar range for a contender for the southern Oregon amateur mid dleweight championship has been arranged for the first card of the newly organized Southern Oregon Boxing club. The pro gram, with net proceeds going to the March of Dimes, will be held at the armory on Feb ruary 1. The main event will send Dale Odom, local middleweight, against Joe Carothers of Grants Pass, undefeated in the Climate city. They are expected to come in at 180 pounds with the win ner to advance in eliminations for a crack at Larry Burdette's southern Oregon crown. Berry Signed Bill Berry, who holds the ama teur welterweight title, will take Rooks Vs. Frosh Set For Friday, Saturday Corvallis, Jan. 19 IU.PJ Al though hampered by a lack of practice room, before Gill coli seum was available, Oregon State's tall Rooks opened their 1950 season last Friday toppling Hood River 43 to 27. The win will send the Rooks undefeated against Oregon's like wise unbeaten Frosh next Fri day and Saturday, the first game in Corvallis and the Saturday game in Eugene. The Frosh are unbeaten in almost 10 games. on Corky King of Oakland, Cal., in a tune-up scrap pointing to ward a rematch with Ray Stickel. Berry and Stickel staged two furious matches here about a year ago with each winning one. Russ Williams of Grants Pass, who lost a close decision to Donovan Wolfe here in Decem ber, will tangle with Don Harper of Gold Hill in another spot on the benefit card. There will be eight matches, it was announced, with the others to be revealed in a few days. SOC to Play At Humboldt Ashland, Jan. 19 Southern Oregon college's basketball team, currently lone possessors of first plfee in the Far Western con ference, will play Humboldt State college Friday and Satur day nights at Areata, Cal., in a conference series. The Red Raiders have won two and lost none in conference play to date, while Humboldt rests in last place with no vic tories and two defeats. Last week-end the Raiders, coached by Ted Schopf, broke even in a non-conference series with Oregon College of Educa tion in games at Monmouth. Schopf is not taking this ser ies with Humboldt lightly as the Californians are regarded as one of the top quintets in the con ference despite their present standings. They have a club of veterans in basketball and al ways they are tough to beat on their own floor. Last week-end Humboldt dropped a pair to second-place Chico State by 69 to 34 and 98 to 48.
