Those stories linking her with young Charles Mapes Jr., owner of the multi-million-dollar Mapes hotel, are just plain ridiculous, she said. "It makes me furious," Shirley said. "How can people pull these things out of the sky like that? Whatever gave them that idea? I suppose, now that I'm divorced, these rumors will come up all the time. "What are they doing to me? Thomas1, Oregon Finance company, 45 South Central av enue, announced today the dis solution of the W. E. Thomas In surance agency In connection with the company. In its place will be the Stark-Thomas Insur ance agency, a partnership, with W. E. Thomas and Stan Stark, principals. The company handles fire and auto insurance. Stark has been associated with the Oregon Finance company nine years, and was made mana ger in 1946 upon return from armed service. grumbled. "I am a fair mechanic myself. Widow Recluse Leaves Money For Aid Of Blind Portland. Ore., Jan. 12 (U.Ri The will of Ella R. Burdin, a widow recluse who died in 1948 left $110,000 to help the blind. Mrs. Burdin died at the age of 74 in Portland. She had lived alone for many years in a house lit by kerosene lumps. The mon ey was left to "the Portland blind school", now known as the Oregon Service Center for the Blind. In addition she left $.1,000 for the Corvallis WCTU children's home. Cordon has held a similar position at radio sta tion KRNR In Roscburg for the past four years. He will work with Pete Watts, manager of mju, in handling local and na- 1 tional commercial accounts, and relations with the American Broadcasting company, with which the station is affiliated. Cordon, a native of Roseburg, attended public schools there and later the University of Ore gon. For a year he was associated I with the Douglas county sheriff's office in Roseburg, and following that was a member of the state police, stationed In Salem. In 1941, he joined the army air corps, and served four years, two of them overseas, largely in flight control work. He was sep arated with the rank of captain. Redding, Cal., Jan. 12 (U.R) I Four persons were stranded in! sub-freezing weather for over eight hours Tuesday night near here when a snow plow broke down on highway 89. The snowplow. driven by Har old Van Cleve, snapped an axle 25 miles north of Burney, about 75 miles northeast of here. A car following the plow was also stranded and Van Cleve and three other unidentified persons stayed all night in the car, the highway patrol reported. No one suffered ill effects. Rescue crews fought their way through 15 foot deep snow drifts to locate them. Ash Fork. Ariz..
