KM Editorial Correspondence Palm Springs, Feb. 14 What a VALENTINE "Honest Harold" handed the Truman administration! And we heartily approve every word of It. As has often been stated In this department, one can dislike Harold, and even believe him a poor public servant, but no one who knows him, or anything about him, can believe him a liar, a man who lacks the courage or the inclination to tell the truth. And if his charge against Mr. Truman's appointee is not true, then he must be a liar and a vicious and unprincipled one. Ergo, II . , a a a It is too bad In a way. We don't doubt President Truman's good intentions nor his earnest desire to do what is best for his country. But it is all wrong when it Is embodied in a president of the United States, for then, not what is best for one's pal, but what is best for one's country must be the first in fact the ONLY consideration. This department will not be surprised If this break between the president and his secretary of the Interior t rank In our political history, with the famous break between Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft that one started over a secretary of the Interior also, a Seattle man by the name of Bellinger. The Republican party has not yet recovered from that break, It may well take a quarter century for the Democratic party to recover from this one. ' t And the reason for such s result would be that this break is at the Democratic party's weakest point, that line of cleavage between the New Deal Roosevelt-Wallace faction, and the Old Deal, Hannegan-Truman-Pendergast-Kelly faction. These two groups are Just as far apart from the standpoint of political beliefs and principles, as are the two major parties, farther apart in fact, for there is almost an Identical division within the GOP, the old liberals and the stand-patters. What should be done, of course, Is obvious, two entirely new national parties should be formed, one a Liberal party, the other a Conservative party. But how are you going to do it? It is like unscrambling those eggs J. P. Morgan once mentioned. This Incident, coming so soon after the report that President Truman will not run for re-election, makes the latter action more probable than ever. For In this department's Judgment Mr. Tru man actually does not "choose" to run, he honestly believes he Isn't qualified for the Job, and whether he is or isn t, he doesn t LIKE it. The only thing, therefore, that would make him a can didate would be the demand of a united party that he run, for the sake of -the party and victory. We doubt very much if that united and overwhelming de mand exists at convention time as far as Mr. Truman Is concerned, e a e e . e Oh, for another Will Rogers! The statement Is this: Most of our everyday com plaints and health Impairments are the manifestations of nutri tional deficiency. Lest some readers misunderstand, the term nutritional deficiency means that our pure, refined, nourishing, digestible food is de ficient in one or more essential elements minerals, vitamins, amino-acids which are essen tial to maintain optimal health, vite, growth, vigor even though we get plenty to eat or perhaps eat too much.
