KLAMATH FALLS TANGLES WITH MEDFORD TONIGHT A southern Oregon conference basketball game that can either make or break the Medford Black Tornado title hopes will take place on the Medford high school floor tonight, beginning at 8 o'clock. Klamath Falls, in second place with wins over Grants Pass and Ashland, will provide opposition. Schilling LEAGUE CHIPS Norm Worthley's Medford cagers cinched the Southern Ore gon junior high basketball crown when they handed Ash land a 26 to 18 defeat Wednes day. The win gives the local hoopers a record of six wins against one defeat and although they yet have to play Grants Pass, they mathematically can not be beaten out of the cham pionship. Portland Meadows yGets Racing Dates Portland, Ore., Feb. 8 (U.PJ The Oregon state racing commis sion today granted two 20-day dates of horse racing to Portland Meadows, the city's new race track. The track was given permis sion to hold the racing sessions sometime between July 27 and Oct. 27. General Manager Wil liam Kyne indicated he would open the first session July 27. The commission also gave per mission for a 60-day greyhound racing season from May 14 to July 26. Ashland Elks Keep League Leadership Ashland Elks retained first place in the Southern Oregon independent basketball league last night when they defeated Mobilgas of Medford 47 to 31 on the SOCE floor at Ashland. The Elks jumped to an early lead and held the upper hand all the way. Medford Ramblers, originally in the Southern Oregon inde pendent hoop league, are back in the circuit under Bower man's policy to provide athletic recreation for as many high school boys as possible. The Ramblers were forced to aban don when they lost J.C. Tucker, their coach, but have again been organized under the watchful eye of Alex McDon ald. They will replace the Med ford junior varsity in the circuit. The district four basketball tournament between high school teams of Klamath Falls. Ashland, Grants Pass and Med ford will be held at the South ern Oregon- College of Educa tion gym in Ashland March 1 and 2 . The college is sponsor ing the meet this year, mainly because nobody else wanted it. Desnite the fact that they are definitely not in favor of the toumey. Medford school offic ials said It could be held here since it had been voted In but SOCE took over to keep the meet an Ashland affair. We have absolutely no use for the tournament and can see no conceivable reason whv It should he plaved. GUN CLUB TO SHOOT ON 16 YARD TRAPS SUNDAY Medford Gun club will shoot over the 16 yard traps beginning at 10:30 a. m. Sunday. Because of the large attendance at the shoots this year the management requests as many shooters as possible to register for the events at the start of shooting.
