Main - Medford E PROFIT SHARING IDEA FAVORABLY Generally favorable reaction toward a profit sharing plan offered peach and tomato grow ers by the Bagley Canning com pany of Ashland was shown when Halph Koozer, manager of the firm, discussed the proposal with approximately 100 growers at the county courthouse audi torium yesterday afternoon. According to the plan the can nery would pay California can nery contract prices for the pro duce and after it is marketed would retain eight per cent of the profits while the remainder would go to the producers. The peach grower would contract a percentage of his crop and the tnmnto farmer, the tonnage from a snecified acreaee and the agreement would continue from year to year with cancellation nnccihlp unnn Hue notice. The facilities of an established institution with its labels and brands would be offered. Freezing Unit Planned That the company was con tempt, tine a large freezing unit in order to supply the irozen fruit market was explained by Koozer. He said, also, that, if the tomato acreage was large enough in the northern end of the county, a receiving station in the vicinity of Central Point would be established for the growers. Though the arrangement is semi-cooperative in nature, no growers organization will be formed according to Koozer, since the cannery will handle the business. However, a pro vision of the contracts would be that a growers committee could examine the records. Koozer asserted that peaches and tomatoes had carried his firm's business through the years and that there has been a larger demand than could be supplied. TO EYE L. A. Full Employment Measure Receives Okay By Conferees Washington, Feb. 2 0J.R) Senate and house conferees to day approved a "full employ ment" bill lacking specific Job guarantees but setting forth a government program to promote "conditions under which there will be afforded useful employ ment opportunities" for those willing and able to work. The compromise hews more closely to the house-passed ver sion of the measure than to the senate bill, both in its declara tion of policy and its program. President Truman in his Janu ary address to the nation termed the house bill "unsatisfactory" and urged the conferees to ap prove the senate measure. Sponsors of full employment legislation in both houses, how ever, declared themselves gen erally satisfeid with the com promise. Williams, Route 4, have been informed by the army that their son, Second Lt. David S. Williams, has been officially declared dead by the War department, one year and a day having passed since he was reported missing in action. The message came from Ma, Gen. Ed. F. Witsell, acting for the adjutant general. Sunday, Feb. S. 1846 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEN ' Lt. Williams was declared missing after a flight from Eng land to Cologne, on Jan. 10, 1945, his plane last having been reported over Aachen. He was co-pilot of a B-17 at that time. The young officer was awarded an air medal which has been for warded to his parents. Lt. Williams was graduated from Lubbock Field in Texas in May, of 1944 and went overseas in November of that year.
