Society and clubs Gold Hill Couple Announce Trothal At Family Dinner . Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore of Gold Hill announced the engagement of their daugh ter, Yvonne, to Herbert L. Ed wards, former lieutenant in the army air corps and a son of Mrs. Golda Edwards, 531 Haven street, at a family dinner held Jan. 29 at the Moore home. No date has been set for the wedding. Both Mis? Moore and her fiance were graduated from Medford senior high school and both are now enrolled at the Southern Oregon College of Edu cation in Ashland. Also honored at the dinner was Darwin C. Mapel, former staff sergeant in the marine corps, who recently returned to this country from Tientsin, China, who celebrated his birth day Jan. 29. Mr. Mapel, discharg ed from the service at San Diego Jan. 22, spent i9 months in the Pacific theater of war. Present for the dinner were Miss Moore, Mr. Edwards, Mrs. Golda Edwards, Miss Bonnie Ed wards. Nadra Lynn Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Mapel and the host and hostess. Calif orian Wed To Medford Man At Local Chapel The wedding of Doris A Figaro of West Sacramento, Calif., to Merle Vernon Mont gomery of Medford took place Friday afternoon at the Chapel of the Rocks and Roses. The service was read at four o'clock by the Rev. t. E. Millard. For her wedding the bride wore a brown dress with green accents and a small brown hat. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery are making an extended wed ding trip after which they will be at home in California. The groom is a veteran of three years of service with the army IS months being spent in the South Pacific at the general headquarters of the army Paci fic forces. Court, 146 South Ivy street, Medford. Couple Married At Chapel Here Miss Mary Lou Ray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel E. Ray. Chlloquin, Ore., and James Thomas Holloway, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jame T. Hollo way of Klamath Falls, were married Saturday, Jan.' 26. in a ceremony at the Chapel of the Rocks and Roses. The Rev. D. E. Millard performed the after noon cere;.iony before a dozen guests. The bride was dressed in a gold colored suit and hat with brown accessories and wore a gardenia corsage. Her aunt, Mrs. Gladys Ray of Eagle Point, served as matron of honor and was attired in a brown suit with 'green accessories. Herbert Perry of Eagle Point was best man. Following the service the Rev. and Mrs.- Millard sang "Moonlight and Roses". Mrs. Holloway is a graduate of Chlloquin high school and Mr. Holloway was recently discharged from the army after two years service with the 775th tank battalion in Italy. The couple will reside in Klamath Falls. Two City Groups Will Entertain State Officers Two Medford groups will en tertain state officers at meetings set for this week. Mrs. Mildred R. Harwood, El gin, Ore., grand chief of the Pythian Sisters lodge, will visit the Medford lodge Tuesday. The group has scheduled a covered dish dinner for 6:30 o'clock at the hall and this will be follow ed by a temple meeting and initiation at eight o'clock. In preparation for Mrs. Harwood's visit, the degree staff and of ficers of the lodge will practice tonight at seven o'clock at the hall. From Medford Mrs. Harwood will go to Grants Pass to visit the lodge there. Mrs. Harry Bry ant is most excellent chief of the local jroup. Wednesday night the auxiliary of Col. Projects For Chapter Here Activities of the Daughters of the American Revolution were reviewed for Crater Lake chapter by Mrs. Bert B. Lowry, state regent, at a luncheon meeting of the chapter Satur day at the Holland Hotel given in Mrs. Lowry's honor. Mrs. Lowry, a Medford resident, is a member of the chapter. In deference to new members of the chapter, Mrs. Lowry read a letter from Mrs. J. Y. Talm adge, president general, ex plaining the use of the auditor ium in the DAR building In Washineton, D. C. The letter also told of the society's long standing program in American ism and told of the handbook used in conducting American ism classes, stating that more than seven million copies of the books have been distributed free of charge. ' In reviewing the many pro tects sponsored by the society. Mrs. Lowry told of furnishing motion picture equipment for Tamassee and the Kate Duncan Smith schools, both of which were equipped and are entire- 'v supported by the organiza tion. . . A new project of interest Is construction of a new Tower of 7ells at Valley Forge, Mrs. Lowry reported. In the tower ace will be provided for nlates on which members may have Inscribed names of rela tives who saw service in either World War I or II and the names of Revolutionary ances tors. State and individual chap ters will also be provided mark er space and Mrs. Lowry an nounced that Oregon would be represented. It was voted that Crater Lake chapter also secure space. Mrs. Lowry told of the rapid growth of Oregon membership and it was stated that Crater Lake chapter had an Increase of 14 new members during the last two years. During a short business meet ing a contribution was made to the March of Dimes and a do nation also made towards pur chase of an Oregon history to be presented to the state library. Mrs. O. H. Brenneman, re gent, Mrs. T. J. Gifford and Mrs. B. G. Harding were named delegate and alternates to the continental congress to be held in Atlantic City next summer.
