(F. L. R.) I hope, sir, you didn't take r. nip lust before you WTOte me that might account for your no tion that my advice Is to take a nip. "A nip", I apprehend, is a sip or small draft; a dram; a quick one; a snlftcd; a slug of liquor. Further, the term "nip" connotes secrecy, drinking on the sly, in some dimly lighted rat hole where rats feel at home. Certainly I do not advise and never have recommended or ap proved drinking any kind of liquor. I do believe a glass of wine, beer or ale once or twice a day Is a blessing for many elderly people. Mind, though, this does not Imply that I advise all elderly folk to take beer, ale or wine. Indeed I doubt that elderly folk who have kept their teeth or dentures function ing efficiently will need the narcotic action of the alcohol in beer, ale or wine to make their old age enjoyable. It Is the poor. Ignorant old people who have lost most of their teeth and limped along for years with digestion seriously impaired and nutrition consequently on the downgrade, who have to turn to this narcotic to make life endurable. I hope I am not unduly pess imistic, yet I would not advise any old geezer to take some thing I, Doe Brady, would not tnke myself and I'd as lief tnke a shot of cocaine once or twice a day as drink a glass of ale or wine. But then, I m young yet, thanks to vitamins, Iodln Ration, Somersaults, Bel ly Brenthlng, Lawn Bowling and a fine flock of pedigreed pipes and, when I can cadge It, fuel to burn In 'em. So I say, leave beer, ale and wine to the old folks. What can I do about It? (Mr. A. P.) Answer It Is mora likely what you don't feed the children than what you do. Plain frt-sh milk how ever, is for better food for any one than condensed milk or evaporated milk, in my opinion. You live In the country if you are not certain about the purity of the milk, bring It to a boil for one minute and It will be perfectly safe for the children. They must have a dally ration of vitamin p too. They should have some aort herb such as lettuce, cabbage, spin ach, dally, and some raw turnip, car rot, celery or whatever vegetable they may like raw. Anyway It Can Do No Harm What you said about the Iodln Ration and Rejuvenation ... I be lieve I have nearly every Iodine de ficiency manifestation you described. (E. M.) Answer Most youngsters In their 'teens and mature adulta get Insuf ficient Iodine to maintain good nu trition. McGinty, one of six brothers in the service and who served in the marine corps as a platoon sergeant, was dis charged Jan. 11 and has re turned to his home, 524 North Riverside avenue. McGinty, who enlisted Sept. 2, 1942, was a marine para chutist and participated In the Solomon Islands, Vella La Vella and Bougainville battles. He returned to the United States when the paramarlnes were dis banded in February of 1944 and again went overseas In Septem ber of 1944, this time with the Fifth marine division which par ticipated in the Iwo Jima cam paign and the occupation of Kyushu, Japan. The marine was awarded the good conduct medal and a letter of commendation by the com manding general of the Fifth marine division for service rend ered at Iwo Jima. He Is a former student of Jacksonville grade and high school. All but one of the brothers have now been released. Still In service Is Paul McGinty, aboard the navy aircraft carrier "Shangrl La." Hugh McGinty served with the first special serv ice force of the army, Edward McGinty fought with General Patton's Third army, Lowell Hcllman served with the army medical corps and Gerald Quln lln with the army. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McGinty, reside near Jack sonville. Prospect Prospect, Jan. 22 Mrs. Ed Sillnger and little son and baby daughter of Lakcvlew arrived here recently to Join Mr. Sil lnger, who lias been employed at the Ross-DeArmond mill for the past several weeks. Lawrence Tribett, who receiv ed his honorable discharge from the navy last month after nearly four years service, has enrolled as a second year student at Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland. Tribett is majoring In physical education and history. Another local high school graduate recently discharged from the army, Donald Vaughn, has also enrolled at SOCE. Friends here recently learned of the death of Charles Grny, a former Prosnect reslrif.nl r.mv and wife and family moved to San Francisco from here, after operating the Prospect garage for a couple of years. Heart trouble was the cause of the death, which occurred at Leb anon, Ore., Dec. 17. Mr. and Mrs. ISIchard Dits worth visited friends at Cave Junction and Kcrby and took a pleasure trip to Crescent City over the week-end. Frank X. Jantzer, foreman of the Claie planing mill at Glen dale, visited relatives here over last week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Neece were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dawson at Trail. Mountain lake, a government protected sanctuary for ducks and gulls, is within the San Francisco Presidio.
