Newspaper Page TextOPA OFFICE HERE K 2 All OPA transactions for Jack eon and Josephine counties will be handled at the Medford war price and ration board office in the city hall after Jan. 1. The Ashland board was closed some time ago and with the end of tire rationing Jan. 1, the Grants Pass office will also be closed it is said. Only sugar rationing, rent control and price control remain for OPA to administer. In the absence of Leonard Carpenter, chairman of the vol unteer board, who has left to spend several weeks in Arizona. Clatous McCredie, chief of police for Medford, will act as assistant chairman and carry on any necessary duties. Mr. Carpenter stated before leaving that the board had not been given any information as to the future intentions of OPA concerning sugar rationing. He re ports many former out-of-state residents are now procuring Oregon licenses for the coming year. This year licenses were issued for approximately 10,000 autos in this county. The exact number of new resident licenses will not be known until a check is made after the first of the year. There was a steady stream of auto license applicants from 10 a. m. yesterday, and the peak of the rush is expected to come next Monday. Under Oregon law autos must bear 1946 li censes on and after Jan. 1, and many are now appearing on local vehicles. Central Point Central Point, Dec. 27 Mr, and Mrs. Mel Williams and children moved recently to Grants Pass to the home which they purchased there. Flo and Harry Johnson and Miss Billie Sullivan are visiting at the Sullivan home until after the holidays. Miss Marjory Jewett, who Is attending Willamette Univer sity, is home for Christmas vacation. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Morris and son, Howard, are visiting rela tlves in Lindsay and Los An geles, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meadows have purchased a home in the Howard Hill district and expect to move after the first of the year. Benson Foley celebrated his 10th birthday anniversary by entertaining a group of friends at his home. Home Extension Unit met Dec. 19 at the home of Eudora Bohnert with about twenty mem bers present. Miss Farrell pre sented an interesting lesson on "Making Kitchens More Liv able." Many interesting sugges tions were made in regard to storing kitchen necessities in convenient and time-saving ways that appealed to all present. The January meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Lathrop. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hover and children left Monday for week's visit with relatives and friends in Salem and Portland Mr. and Mrs. E. Al Henderson is 111 and has been taken to the Sacred Heart hospital. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hogan are the parents of a baby boy born Dec. 17 at the Osteopathic hos pital. Burglary, torgery and bad checks are the most common charges against Inmates in the Wyoming state penitentiary. HOLIDAYS BRING UPTURN IN COUNTY SICK LIST The holiday period has brought an upswing in communicable diseases for the county, with a total of 21 cases reported to the county health officer, Dr. A. Erin Merkel, during the week ending Dec. 21. Twelve cases of chickenpox were reported, four from Med ford, five in the Evans Valley district, and three from Gold Hill. Also listed were five cases of scarlet fever, one each from Camp White, Medford and Central Point and two from Eagle Point. Two cases of sep tic sore throat were listed, one from Prospect and one from Cen tral Point, and two of measles, one from Bellview and one from Gold Hill. Dm Mall Tribune Want Ada. Paper plates, coffee cups and forks are all that will be needed in the way of dishes, except for the serving silver.
