All OPA transactions for Jack
eon and Josephine counties will
be handled at the Medford war
price and ration board office in
the city hall after Jan. 1. The
Ashland board was closed some
time ago and with the end of
tire rationing Jan. 1, the Grants
Pass office will also be closed
it is said. Only sugar rationing,
rent control and price control
remain for OPA to administer.
In the absence of Leonard
Carpenter, chairman of the vol
unteer board, who has left to
spend several weeks in Arizona.
Clatous McCredie, chief of police
for Medford, will act as assistant
chairman and carry on any
necessary duties.
Mr. Carpenter stated before
leaving that the board had not
been given any information as
to the future intentions of OPA
concerning sugar rationing.

Sheriff Howard Gault figures
there will be a substantial in
crease in the number of auto
licenses issued in Jackson county
for 1946, over this year. He re
ports many former out-of-state
residents are now procuring
Oregon licenses for the coming
year. This year licenses were
issued for approximately 10,000
autos in this county. The exact
number of new resident licenses
will not be known until a check
is made after the first of the
year.
There was a steady stream of
auto license applicants from 10
a. m. yesterday, and the peak
of the rush is expected to come
next Monday. Under Oregon
law autos must bear 1946 li
censes on and after Jan. 1, and
many are now appearing on local
vehicles.

IN COUNTY SICK LIST
The holiday period has brought
an upswing in communicable
diseases for the county, with a
total of 21 cases reported to the
county health officer, Dr. A.
Erin Merkel, during the week
ending Dec. 21.
Twelve cases of chickenpox
were reported, four from Med
ford, five in the Evans Valley
district, and three from Gold
Hill. Also listed were five
cases of scarlet fever, one each
from Camp White, Medford and
Central Point and two from
Eagle Point. Two cases of sep
tic sore throat were listed, one
from Prospect and one from Cen
tral Point, and two of measles,
one from Bellview and one from
Gold Hill.

just visit. No matter what the time would be.
this menu will serve as a guide. Everything
can be prepared hours in advance, with the
exception of the cooking of the hamburgers
and hot dogs. The main thing is to have
plenty!

My friend, who specializes in hamburger
parties for New Year's day, pats the seasoned
meat out to about one-half inch in thickness,
on sheets of waxed paper Then she cuta uni
form circles with a number 2( can that ha
had both ends removed She then arrange
these in layers on a tray with waxed paper
between and keeps them in the refrigerator
until just before time to cook.
For large quantity cooking, she places the)
hamburgers on an aluminum tray or a drip
pan and cooks two layers at a time in a very
hot oven, 500 F , and she drops the wieners
in a pot of boiling water that is on the stove.
Meanwhile, right in the kitchen on the
drninhoard or on the kitchen table she
spreads checked cloths and puts all the fix
ings. Paper plates, coffee cups and forks are
all that will be needed in the way of dishes,
except for the serving silver. Each person
makes his own sandwich to suit his own
taste Sometimes there are bowls of shining
red apple's and cheesed popcorn for dessert.
