TEN MEDFOHD MAIL-TRIBUNE Your Health and It's Care Br OR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.D. Raadera ihould addrasi Inquiries toi Or William Brady. 265 El Camino BvtIt Hills. Calii. TO OUR DRUGGISTS HI-YA It was my Intention to entitle this tirade "Apology to the Druggists" b u t, honestly, it g e e m m o though I have y -.7 . - been apologiz- t ' 3 II n g to one I -e . meA group after anoiner incac many years and who ever apologizes to me? This inquiry from a reader, however, make me feel a s h a m ed of Dr. Rrady nt the cracks I have taken at druggists in general. The lady writes: "In purchasing Iron and ammonium citrate I was in formed by pharmacist that the dosage by teaspoonful from solution as you describe, i.e., 1 oz. crystals dissolved In 2Vi oz. water (taken in glass of water three times a day) would be dangerously over strong ..." I have never described such a strong solution as this reader evidently believes I described. The pharmacist Is right about that. And that misunderstanding or similar confusion probably ac counts for most of the quarrels our readers contrive to stir up between the druggists and the n.and-so who conducts this column. Here is the way to prepare the iron tonic as I describe it in the booklet "Blood and Health" for copy of the booklet send ten cents and stamped self ad dressed envelope: Purchase from the druggist 4 ounces of Iron and ammonium citrates, otherwise called citrate of Iron and ammonia, ammonio forrlc citrate, Ferri et Ammonil Citras, USP and BP. This is not two Items, but a single sub stance. It comes In thin, trans parent, garnet-red scales or gra nules or sometimes brownish scales or granules, but not green. Put the entire quantity In a pint bottle. Fill the bottle with boiled water after the water has cooled a bit. There you have It, ready to take. Take a teaspoonful of the tonic. In one-fourth glassful of water, straight or, if you pre fer flavored with fruit Juice and sweetened a bit with sugar, honey or syrup, after food three times a day. A teaspoonful of the Iron tonic contains about IS grains of Iron and ammonium citrates contains approximately 2Vi grains of Iron. So you see, you take only 7 or 8 grains or iron a day when you take a teaspoon ful of this iron tonic three times a day. Of course a healthy person requires only about one-fourth of a grain of Iron a day to sup ply normal daily nutritional re quirements. An anemic person requires much more. Again, only a fraction of the Iron taken as medicine, no mat ter whether It be organic or in organic, mineral or vegetable, in liquid or solid form, is assim ilated. Most of the iron com bines with sulfur compounds In the alimentary canal and is not absorbed at all. qvr.STinNs answers Slop Thief Large drugstore here In (the mid west i offers '"Dr. llrady'a Iodine Tablets" but . . .
