The degree team will drill at 7 p. m. promptly under the supervision of District Commander Walker and all members are urged to be pre sent. A class of recruits will be initiated and following the busi ness meeting a social hour will be held jointly with the auxili ary. Alexander Home Former staff sergeant with the army air corps, A. E. Alexander has re turned to Medford from Ft. Lewis, Wash., following an hon orable discharge from the serv ice. Alexander served 30 months, of 35 in the army, with the 5th, 13th and Far East air forces in the Pacific theater as a member of the ground force fighter control. He resides with his mother, Mrs. Grace Alex ander, at the family home, 814 West 8th street. 1000 Times More Than Ever The first Thanksgiving decreed by Governor Bradford in 1623 celebrated the sur vival of a minority. Unknow ingly, it also marked the birth of a nation made up of minor ities the Puritans of Massa chusetts, the burghers of New York, the cavaliers of Virginia, the Indians of a vast frontier. None, mark you, liked another. With a trait common to minorities, each felt itself a cut above the rest. Yet the history of three centuries shows that when these minorities did get together and founded the greatest, freest, happiest nation of all time, the old animosities somehow vanished. Our history since the first Thanksgiving shows that the growth of this democracy has been paralleled by the growth of tolerance. Not only has the majority come to understand better the views and problems of the minorities, but the mi norities have come nearer to appreciating the common de nominators that make for ma jorities. Through three centuries the motto of this country has been "United we stand. But the fact has remained, sometimes through bitter tests : "We stand united!" Now, 1000 times more than ever, the land we have inherited from early Americans of all faiths, colors, and conditions is made up of minorities on whose survival its future de pends. Yet, 1000 times more than ever, history should con vince majorities and minorities alike that no conflict can sur vive the American tradition of mutual tolerance. That's reason for another Thanksgiving and it's the history of America. t f flea 4 ttfl", Owerg4 le ewr RktoMMd RrflMry PERSONAL - - - . CALENDAR Monday 8:15 p. m.
