Central Point, Nov. 15 Ar mistice Day was celebrated here Monday with Myers - Holland Post No. 129, American Legion, in charge. The day started with a large number of our members attending the breakfast in Med ford with Medford Post No. 15 as hosts. After the parade most of the veterans returned to Cen tral Point to attend the lunch eon given in honor of Depart ment Commander Neil Morfitt, Department Adjutant Fritz Nis- sen, Past Department Com mander Niel R. Allen, District Commander Bob Bryant, Mayor E. E. Scott and Captain H. B. La Favre, U. S. Navy, commander of the Navy Hospital at Camp White; Commander Doyle and Lieut. English, U. S. Navy, of Camp White Navy Hospital. After the luncheon the party proceeded to the new Legion Memorial building, where a large crowd was waiting to greet them. Highlight of the day was lay ing of the cornerstone of the post's new home. Krupp Presides Commander Joe Krupp was master of ceremonies and the program got under way with the Central Point high school band, under direction of Com rade Harry Myers, playing the national anthem, the invocation New Important IMPROVEMENTS New, beautiful exterior styling , , Improved rust - New instrument panel . . . Harry Hansen. Mayor E. E. Scott delivered the address of welcome to the assembled guests. Department Adjutant Nissen responded, complimenting the post on the progress of the building since he visited here last July, when the only sem blance of a building was the foundation and a small section of the west wall. Post History Told Comrade H. P. Jewett then gave the history of the post for the past year, the progress they have made, comparing it to a baby with its eyes wide open, standing on its own feet, put ting forth lusty yells of achieve ment, that has doubled in size in the past year, and which has outgrown its 3-cornered gar ments and will soon be com pletely clothed in up-to-date building. Commander Krupp then in troduced Captain La Favre, who gave an impressive talk on the friendly and patriotic spirit of the people of Southern Ore gon, complimenting the post on its achievement of having their building so near completion without incurring any indebted ness. Department Commander Mor fitt was then introduced and gave the principal address of the day, talking on the subject, "Jobs for the returning veter ans." He stressed the fact that the government had promised jobs for all of them and that promise must be kept. The Drum and Bugle Corps of Boy Scout Troop No. 2 play ed two numbers which were greatly enjoyed. Kilties Honored Ashland Post No. 14 then pre sented their Kiltie Band for three numbers after which Com mander Morfitt designated them as his official band for the state convention in 1946 which will be held in Medford. The formal laying of the cor nerstone was made by Mrs. resistant bodies DEAN Phone 2942 Susie Myers, Gold Star mother of Homer (Stub) Myers, while the band played "America, The Beautiful." The ceremonies ended with the Central Point high school band playing "America." VETERANTF'K-9 IS PROSPECT PET Lee Lincoln, Prospect cafe owner, received from the war department this week an ex-war dog named "Baron", who recent ly was given an honorable dis charge from the K-9 corps. Bar on, a five-year-old Doberman Pinscher, spent three years overseas with the 2nd and 5th marine divisions, taking part in action on Tarawa, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and making an outstanding record for himself. The dog, which was awarded the presidential unit citation along with the fifth marine corps, was wounded in action on Tarawa. In the service three and one-half years, he Just com pleted an eight-weeks course in reconversion for civilian life. Owner Lincoln, who first saw the dog in the Solomons, where he was stationed as a chief avia tion pilot with the naval air corps, returned to Prospect early this year following an honorable discharge from the navy, and wrote his request for ownership of the dog to the war depart ment. While in the service Lin coln served in several theaters and received the purple heart, for wounds received in action in the European theater, the dis tinguished flying cross and the air medal.
