In the boys and girls department of the Medford pub lic library, it will be heralded with many activities, and an in teresting display of new fall books. Among the books to ba shown are a number of outstanding biographies and career stories for older boys and glrla such as "The Little Giant; the Story of Stephan A. Douglas" Nolan; "Oliver Hazard Perry" Fenton; "Runway to th Sun" Scott. This last will be of special ap peal to boys liking aviation, as it is the personal record of this famous aviator. Girls will an joy "Brave Nurse" Newcomb, which in cludes ten true stories of heroic nurses of our own and other lands. "We Have Tomorrow" Bontemp, is timely and inspir ing as it tells of the struggle and successes of a dozen Negro Americans, who have distin guished themselves in one or an other art or profession. Adults as well as boys and girls will find this an arresting book. Boys will especially like the following, "Mudhen" Allen, a first rate school story. "Hurri cane Treasure" Sackett; "Black Stallion Returns" Farley; "Wings Over the Dessert" Dean; "Patriot in the Saddle" Nolan, and "Mystery of the Log ging Camp" Reynolds, are all well written stories charged with mystery and suspense. Books for older girls are var ied, with a predominence of career stories. The Missionary Guild will be reorganized for the win ter season, and committees ap pointed to serve on the clothing drive. Any kind of wearable cloth ing or cloth for adults and chil dren, as well as shoes of any size can be used. Even if the cloth ing is not cleaned, or mended, the need is so great that the la dies of the community will pre pare the materials and the men will package it for shipment, and send it direct to the Ameri can Friends Service Committee in Philadelphia, and the church committee on Overseas Relief and Rehabilitation. All ladies are invited to attend the first meeting of the season. The church will become a depot to handle the clothing, and pick up service will be had by calling 2926. PLANE WRECK FOUND Memphis, Tenn., Nov. 7 (U.R) Wreckage found near Marion, 111., has been identified as that cf a navy plane missing since Oct. 21 on a Chicago-to-Memphis flight, naval air station officials reported today. Two. bodies found in the wreckage were identified as Ens. Ralph W. Lar son, Clearfield, Utah, and Amm. lc E. F. The president also asked- the people at the same time to dedicate themselves 'to the building of an enduring peace among the countries of the world." Medford will celebrate the holiday Monday, Nov. 12, since Nov. 11 'falls on Sunday. Plan ned are the traditional Armis tice Day parade and dance and other annual events staged by veterans' organizations of the city. The annual football game between Medford and Ashland has been advanced, and will be played Friday of this week. Maj. Jerrold Owen, Legionnaire Editor Accepts Bank Post Portland, Nov. 7 Appoint ment of Maj. Jerrold Owen as director of public relations for Central bani, with head office in Oakland, Cal., is announced by President Frank L. Belgrano, Jr. of that institution. Owen has been publisher since 1019 of the Oregon Legionnaire. This newspaper is the largest and oldest American Legion de partment publication. Prior to the war, he was state administrator of civilian defense in Oregon. For 10 years he was adminis trator of the Oregon World War Veterans State 'Aid commission and for nine years was a mem ber of the publication commis sion of the American Legion, which handles the Legion maga zine and the National Legion naire. When World War II began, he entered the second time, was given the rank of captain and served through five campaigns in France as a military govern ment officer. He was the only detachment commander among 77 military government teams under the 1st army to receive the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star for his service in France. P.-T. A.
