Bentley Returns Jack Bent ley, son of Mrs. Lucille Bentley, 133 Williamette avenue, return ed to the valley last night fol lowing an honorable discharge from the army at Ft. Lewis, Wash., after five years in the service. Bentley, a sergeant with the air corps ground force, re ceived six bronze battle stars for 22 months service with the 5th air force in the Pacific theater, being stationed in Australia, New Guinea Dutch East Indies, Philippines, and the Ryukyus while overseas. He Is a graduate of Ashland high school. Gould Discharged Alvln A. Gould has been discharged from the army air corps after four and one-half yeart of service, 17 months of which was spent In a German prison camp. Gould, who held the rank of first lieu tenant, was in Medford last week to visit friends. He holds the air medal and presidential unit citation. The young man plans to re-enter the University of Oregon at Eugene, where he was a 6tudent before the war, to resume his study of Journal ism. Gould, a graduate of Med ford high school, is a son of Mrs. Andrew Gould Hedlund, for merly of Medford but now of Oregon City. Boylan, 68, a real estate dealer for many years in Medford, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday evening. Ar rangements are in care of Conger-Morris Chapel. MRS. JENNIE F. HOWARD. Services for Mrs. Jennie F. Howard, 79. who passed away Tuesday, will be held in the Conger-Morris Chapel at 2 p. m. Fri day with the Rev. D. E. Millard officiating. Interment will be In IOOF cemetery. She was born In Talent. Dec. 26, 1865, on what Is now known as the Fred Rapp place. She was the daughter of William and Martha Johnson, early pioneers of southern Oregon. She attend ed the Ashland schools and was united In marriage to William Howard, Medford, in 1890. Mr. Howard passed away last April. For the past 53 years she had lived at her home on Stewart avenue. Surviving Is a son, Roy L. Howard, Medford; two grand children, Wesley Howard, Med ford, and Mrs. Charles Hale, Los Angeles; and two sisters. Miss Etta and Effie Johnson, Ashland. GEORGE CURRIER George Currier, 402 S. Ham ilton, passed away unexpected ly Wednesday evening. He was born In Sweetwater. 111., Nov. 13, 1859. In 1001, at Mason City, 111., he was united. In marriago to Frances Teeters, who sur vives. He moved to Hammond, Kansas, and was In the general merchandise business there for many years. In 1915 he moved to Geraldine, Mont., where he operated a wheat ranch. In 1919 he moved to southern Oregon, spending the first three years on a farm near Talent. In 1922 he purchased the grocery store at 11th and Hamilton, Medford, re tiring from business In 1943. A short time ago the Medford IOOF lodge presented him with his 30-year jewel. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Currier and six chil dren: Mrs. Grace Gordon. Los Angeles; Mrs. Caroline Allgood, Seattle; Mrs. Adel Josephson, Payette, Ida.; Alonza Currier, Great Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Georgia Ralston and Mrs. Rosie Relnk lng. Medford. There are also four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be held In the Conger-Morris Chapel at 2:30 p. m. Saturday with the Rev. Harry Hansen officiating.
