TEN MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Thuriday, Oct. 18, 1945 Your Health and It's Care By DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.D. Reader! ihould address Inquiries toi Dr. William Brady. 265 El Camino. Beverly Hille. Calif. KEEP THE BELT Fear naturalfy Induces one or the other reaction: fight or flight. You instinctively wish to remove or ocfmv what y ' ' you fear or I .1 else run away from It. A r.-r. r 1 I .... .t-- cniia or ouici sensitive per son may faint become too weak to move when startled or s u d d e nly confronted by ytSuAkeU some strange Dr. Brady or menac I n g thing. A good many people ' who are neither sissies nor cowards become faint or 111 at the mere sight of bleeding even though it be no more than is good for the slight wound. Anxiety and worry are milder forms of fear say chronic rather than acute fear, or dilut ed fear. Feai is the principal cause of surgical shock and traumatic Fhockftrauma means Injury or wound). Every physician knows how Important It Is to allay fear and to avoid frightening or alarming thp patient, no matter what the nature of the illness may be. Every surgeon takes routine steps to Insulate the patient when preparing for oper ation It is to this Insulation or nnocl-assoclntion (we'll leave that to Webrter) that we owe the mnrkable freedom from shock In modern surgery. The symptoms, bodily chang es, alterations In appearance and disturbances of various bodily functions are the same In anxiety or worry and shock, but In anxiety or worry these manifestations are more likely to be dislntorpreted or attribut ed to causes which really have nothing to do with the patient's condition. I say patient's condi tion unfortunately the major ity of victims of anxiety or wor ry choose to be their own doc tors If they do anything at all about it. Some people prefer to call It Just care or responsibility but It is still anxiety, worry or fear, by whatever pleasant name you please to disguise It. You fear whatever, you think On the Radio Chain t a r i o n a Cham affiliation end wbare uiaj are on the dial. KA1.K (MUSI mil Portland) KKX (AUCI I IBO, Portland KOO (AUC) till Han Pranrlsco.
