NEW WORLD-WIDE LABOR UNION TO PERON'S POLICE Washington, Oct. llflJ.PJ A new world labor organization claiming 75,000.000 members under mixed communist, social ist and left wine leadership is making its first public bow this week. The organization was estab lished Oct. 8 in Paris after a meeting of delegates represent ing 46 countries which began on Sept. 25. The United States was represented by an all-CIO dele gation led by Sidney Hillman. Drives Wedge The name is the World Fed eration of Trade Unions. Its creation drives another wedge between the Congress of Indus trial Organizations and the American Federation of Labor here. The AFL has refused to participate in any International labor organization in which the Soviet Union or the CIO are rep resented. Prior to the Paris meeting the British Trades Union Congress met in Blackpool, England. George Meany of the AFL ad dressed that congress, charging that Russian trade unions were instruments for the "virtual en slavement" of millions of Rus sian workers. Remarks Protested Russian spokesmen bitterly protested Meany's remarks. But the World Federation of Trade Unions, with the CIO and the Russian unions both in power ful positions within its organiza tion, still hopes for AFL partici pation. Dispatches from Paris Indicate that the new labor organization expects the present leadership of the AFL ultimately to be overthrown. The new leaders would be expected to bring the American federation into the world group. Frenchmen Leader Meantime the World Federa tion of Trade Unions gets going with a Frenchman of mixed com munist and socialist sympathies in the driver's seat. He is Louis Saillant, a 35-year-old leader of French underground resistance to the Germans after the 1940 armistice. He has no formal po litical affiliations but has sup ported communist views as often as socialist views in the day by day development of French politics. Buenos Aires, Oct. 11 (U.R) The two chief police officials charged with enforcing Argen tina's state of siege were depos ed tclay in the wake of the forc ed resignation of Col. Juan Peron, "strong man" of the mil itary government. The two were" in charge of police who used Tommy guns, tear gas and sabers to break up anti-government demonstrations and jailed 2,000 protesting stud ents in the past week. Peron resigned yesterday as vice president, war minister and labor minister in the govern ment which he had led with an iron hand. Whether Feron's resignation effectively ends his reign of power still was not clear.. For eign Minister Juan I. Cooke ad mitted at a press conference that Peron may have resigned only to givi him political freedom to Thursday, del. 11, 194S MEDFORD MAIL-TRIBUNE SEVEN run for office in the elections.
