Pitts, AMMlc, arrived in Oakland, Calif., last week from overseas, according to information re ceived by his wife who resides at Box 239, Route 1. Pitts, who arrived on the small carrier Cas ablanca, has gone to Bremerton, Wash., where he will be d charged from the service. He is expected home by the first of next month. Sergeant Home First Sat. James H. Flaherty has arrived in this country from Okinawa and has been sent to an army hospital at Camp Carson, Col. according to information re ceived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Flaherty. 108 Alida street, Ashland. Sgt. Flaherty, overseas three years with the 27th Infantry, both on Saipnn and Okinawa, is suffering from a tropical skin disease. Gifford Home Randall M. Gifford, EM3c, is home on fur lough and is visiting his wife, family and parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Gifford, at the family home. 425 South Oakdale avenue. His ship, "Golden City," arrived at San Francisco Friday with troops returning from Leyte and Samar. Gifford's brother, Hu bert W. Giffofd, RTlc, recently visited his parents. He is now stationed at Del Monte, Calif. Sons Here Preston J. Card, metalsmith 1c, and Gage San den, EMlc, both of U. S. Navy, are visiting at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. O. San den, 304 South Central avenue. Preston Card recently received a discharge on the point system at a repair station at New Orleans, after six and a half years' serv ice, and will be employed at Klamath Falls. Word was received re cently from another son, Roger Card, CB, that he is now on Oki nawa after serving nearly a year in the Aleutians. ARRIVES FOR CITY A huge new red pumper has arrived in the city from the American La France plant at Elmira. N. Y., City Fire Chief Roy Elliott, reported yesterday. The 200-horse-power machine which was ordered by the city in August, 1944, is complete with d four man cab and all the latest improvements such as a red f:asher light arid siren. The fire department is now awaiting arrival of a field en gineer from the New York plant and an insurance represen tative to test the pumper. It must meet requirements of pick up and delivery rate from a ten foot lift of 1,000 gallons of water per minute and must continue at that rate for three nours, ac cording to Elliott. LADY JAYCEES HEAR TALK ON DELINQUENCY Robert Elder, Jackson county juvenile officer, told members of the Lady JayCees ways to com bat juvenile delinquency at a meeting of the organization held at the home of Mrs. Don Stansell 202 South Orange street, last night.
