The public is cordially invited to attend. WE ARE ON OUR The) paak of oar Company's telephone shortage was in August. Then we had about 305,000 unfilled orders for service of which more than 298,000 were for service in residences. More orders come in every day, but now we are installing telephones faster than the new orders come in. We will get 80,000 telephones from July to December 31 this year, and 80,000 in the first three monthi of 1946. Western Electric, our manufacturing company, is setting up every machine it has that will make telephone equipment. In the next 12 months the Bell System expects to install more telephones than there were in all of France and Belgium before the war. Even that will not give service to everyone who wants it in that time. There are places where we have complicated switchboards to install even places where we must build new buildings for the new switchboards. While there were in August more than 123,000 unfilled orders due to lack of telephone instruments, there was a greater number, about 164,000, unfilled due to shortage of central office facilities. But we are on our way to give service to all who want ir on our way to restore Bell System standards of service and raise them even higher. Lalenf- son. 332 North Holly street, at 1:30 p.m. yesterday to extin guish a flue fire. No damage was leported by firemen. Another run was made to the Pennywise drug More, on East Main street, at 12:03 a.m. today to extinguish a fire in an ash can behind the building. TuHe Home Robert M. Tuttle. son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Tuttle, Valley View drivel has returned to the home of his parents following an honorable discharge Sept. 20 from the army air force at Camp Beale, Calif. As a technical sergeant Tuttle served nine months with the air corps in the Pacific thea ter, and received the purple heart, the air medal with three oak leaf clusters and the distin guished flying cross. He gradu ated from Medford high school with the class of 1943. F. Miller, 524 North Bartlett street, applied for permit yester day at the city superintendent's office to remodel a rear porch at a cost of $200. In California Frank H. Rog ers, city superintendent, left the city Sunday for San Francisco where he plans to spend a week on business. Rogers expects to return Monday. He is visiting his wife, daughters and parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Mqpre, at the family home, 243 South Holly street. To Hold Services The Rev. Navyman Here Wayne Har ris, recently discharged navy vet eran, is making his home in the city at 862 East ninth street, aft er five years In the service and 28 months with the Pacific fleet. Harris, who resided at Mt. Shas ta, Calif., before entering the service, is employed at Mann's store, 14 North Central avenue. Promoted Houston R. Pitts, son of Mrs. H. R. Pitts, 915 Queen Ann avenue, has been pro moted to technical sergeant ac cording to a news release from headquarters of the army air forces in the India-Burma thea ter. Sgt. Pitts, liaison pilot and flight leader with the 5th liaison squadron, holds the distinguished flying cross. Wharton Here Charles Ben Wharton, RT2c, is spending a six day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Wharton, 1134 West Ninth street, after which he will return to sea duty. His brother, Lt. S. T. (Ted) Wharton, and Mrs. Wharton arrived this morning to spend a few days aft ter which Lt. Wharton goes to a port of embarkation from where he will leave for Japan to Join the occupation army.
