William Den i nie Wood arrived in the United i States Monday by plane from i Guam, after 18 months in the Pacific theater, according to a j phone call from Pfc. Wood, in San Francisco, to his wife, who resides at 329 North Bartlett street. Wood, who was injured while with the 47th engineers on Okinawa, expects to be stationed In the States in the future. He is the son of Mrs. Clarence Pan key, 321 Apple street. Mrs. Latham Horn Mrs. Ethel Latham, 822 South Oak dale avenue, returned to Med ford Monday night from Port land. While there Mrs. Latham attended capping ceremonies ( held at Providence Hospital Sunday for members of the United States Cadet Nurses corps now in training there, her daughter, Miss Betty Latham, being a member of the class. J.Irs. Latham was accompanied to Portland by another daughter, Mrs. Eugene Peterson of Rose burg. Captain Returning Capt. Ro bert T. Iven, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore H. Iven, 1006 West Fourth street, has been returned to the continental United States from the Pacific war theater ac cording to a release from the army. Capt. Iven, who has been In the army since October of 1940 had been overseas 10 months and with his air corps unit participated in the offensive against Japan. He recently was stationed on Tinian in the Mari anas Islands. Capt. Iven wears the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon and I two battle stars, the release states. i Couple Here Adj. and Mrs. , Charles K. Cox. former Medford residents, are in Medford and are guests at the home of Mrs. Cox' parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Towndrow, 1035 West Tenth street. Since leaving Med ford about two years ago Adj. t and Mrs. Cox have been direct ors of the Salvation Army USO center at Tacoma, Wash., and are now en route to San Francis co where they will become di rectors of the Market Street . Salvation Army center for the USO. Adj. Cox was head of the Medford Salvation Army corps when first coming to Medford and later, with Mrs. Cox. direct ed the West Main Street USO here for several months. Mrs. O'Rourke is the former Harriet Gerhardt. Lieutenant H o m e Lt. (jg) Leighton Piatt arrived in Med ford Sept. 2 and is spending a 30-day leave with his father, H. F. Piatt, 815 East Jackson boule vard. Lt. Piatt has served two years in the Pacific theater. He reports to San Diego Oct. 1 for reassignment. Moves Business Jim Grimes is this week moving his barber shop from the Medford Center building to a new location, 423 East Main street, across from the Roxy theater. Grimes states that he will be open for busi ness Sept. 8. He operated in tne former location for eight years. Tollesons Here Sgt. and Mrs. Ted Tolleson are spending 30 days in the city visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Fasel, 40 North Peach street. The Tollesons ar rived in Medford from Petrolia, Tex., where they visited with the sergeant's father. Sgt. Tolle son, on convalescent furlough from Hammond general hospi tal, Modesto, Calif., was wound ed last October while in action with the 91st division in Italy. Receives Medal Pfc. Cecil E. Rogers, Infantry rifleman in the 43rd, or Winged Victory Divis ion, has been awarded the purple heart medal for wounds received March 14 while in combat against the Japanese on Luzon Island, the Philippines, an army dispatch states. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Rogers of Butte Falls. Pfc. Rogers has returned to duty with the 43rd Division, which has seen action in four major campaigns during 35 months in the Pacific theater, the release states. Dr. A. A. Soule, M. D. Casperson, Sioux City, la., has been receiv ed here. The child passed away Aug. 16. Mrs. Casperson is the former Avonne Rae of Medford. Merchant Mariner Home Kenneth Hamner arrived home Sunday from Long Beach, Calif., where he has been stationed for the past eight months with the merchant marine. Hamner, his wife and daughter, reside at the Holland hotel. Committee To Meet The committee for Community Aids to Veterans will meet Friday evening of this week to hear a talk by E. L. Knight, new repre sentative of the National Veter ans' Administration for Jackson county. The meeting is schedul ed for 8 p. m. at the Red Cross chapter office in the courthouse. Lants' Leaving Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Lantz and sons, Kenneth and Carrol, who made their home in Medford since 1935, plan to leave the city Thursday for Portland, where Mr. Lantz has been transferred by the Pierce Auto Freight Lines, Inc., and where they will make their home. Mrs. Lantz has served as organist at the First Methodist church. Main and Laurel streets. In Hospital John Perkins, 26 West Main street, was recover ing In Community hospital to day from head and chest In juries suffered last night when the car he was operating struck a Southern Pacific engine at the Jackson street crossing, city po lice said today.
