from the Pacific war theater ac
cording to a release from the
army. Capt. Iven, who has been

1940 had been overseas 10
months and with his air corps
unit participated in the offensive
against Japan. He recently was
stationed on Tinian in the Mari
anas Islands. Capt. Iven wears
the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon and

Tollesons Here Sgt. and Mrs.
Ted Tolleson are spending 30
days in the city visiting at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. F. Fasel, 40 North
Peach street. The Tollesons ar
rived in Medford from Petrolia,
Tex., where they visited with
the sergeant's father. Sgt. Tolle
son, on convalescent furlough
from Hammond general hospi
tal, Modesto, Calif., was wound
ed last October while in action
with the 91st division in Italy.
Receives Medal Pfc. Cecil E.
Rogers, Infantry rifleman in the
43rd, or Winged Victory Divis
ion, has been awarded the
purple heart medal for wounds
received March 14 while in
combat against the Japanese on
Luzon Island, the Philippines, an
army dispatch states. He is a
son of Mr. and Mrs. James E.
Rogers of Butte Falls. Pfc.
Rogers has returned to duty
with the 43rd Division, which
has seen action in four major
campaigns during 35 months in
the Pacific theater, the release
states.

Infant Dies News of the
death of the infant daughter of
Lt. and Mrs. Carl G. Casperson,
Sioux City, la., has been receiv
ed here. The child passed away
Aug. 16. Mrs. Casperson is the
former Avonne Rae of Medford.
Merchant Mariner Home
Kenneth Hamner arrived home
Sunday from Long Beach, Calif.,
where he has been stationed for
the past eight months with the
merchant marine. Hamner, his
wife and daughter, reside at the
Holland hotel.

Lants' Leaving Mr. and Mrs.
R. L. Lantz and sons, Kenneth
and Carrol, who made their
home in Medford since 1935,
plan to leave the city Thursday
for Portland, where Mr. Lantz
has been transferred by the
Pierce Auto Freight Lines, Inc.,
and where they will make their
home. Mrs. Lantz has served as
organist at the First Methodist
church. Main and Laurel streets.

juries suffered last night when
the car he was operating struck
a Southern Pacific engine at the
Jackson street crossing, city po
lice said today. Perkins appar
ently did not see the train, which
was moving slowly, and the car
was dragged about 25 feet, ac
cording to the report.
