Nor would It mean an immediate end of redeployment of forces to the Pacific- A Selective Service spokesman pointed out today that under the draft law registrants are taken into service for the duration of the present war and six months after the "date of termination of hostilities." The "termination of hostili ties" does not mean when the shooting stops. Army to Discharge 4 Million in Year Washington, Aug. 1 1 (U.R) The army is preparing tentative plans which call for the release of about 4,000,000 men In the first '12 months after the war with Japan ends, it was under stood tonight. This would reduce the army to between 3,000,000 and 4,000, 000 in the first year. After V-E day, the army esti mated it would discharge 2,000, 000 men in the following 12 months. It was believed this rate could be more than doubled dur ing the first year after V-J day. LIGHT LAMB CROP Portland, Ore., Aug. 11 (U.R) The 1045 Oregon lamb crop is expected to be the lightest since 1924, the department of agriculture said today. TILLAMOOK FIRE STILL IN CHECK Portland, Ore.. Aug. 11 U.R) Western Oregon fire fighters today kept the flames of the Tillamook forest fire from ad vancing for the second straight day. Favorable weather conditions helped the fighters maintain their advantage, but a long range weather forecast indicated warm er and drier conditions were due next week. Forestry officials were hoping that consolidated fire trails of the past few days would hold the 150 000 acres already burned. Forest Grove and Hillsboro wa tersheds were still well protected. London, Aug. 11 (U.R) Four of the Red army's star command ers of the European battleground are in charge of the Soviet offen sive in Manchuria, Moscow dis closed today in reporting new gains of 50 miles along the Chin ese Eastern railway leading to Harbin. The third Russian communi que of the Far Eastern war dis closed that Marshal Alexander M. Vasilevsky, former chief of staff of the Red army and com mander of the Third White Rus sian army that conquered East Prussia, is in top command of the Red Banner' Far Eastern armies. Under Vasilevsky are Marshal Rodion Y. Malinovsky, com mander in the trans-Baikal sec tor of western Manchuria; Gen. Maxim Purkayev, commander of the Second Red Banner army on the Amur river front in northern Manchuria, and Marshal Kirill A.
