They expect to be in the city two weeks. Visiting Here Miss Helena Walton of Oakland, Calif., ar rived Saturday evening to visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walton, 404 S. Plenic Friday The "Ship mates" Sunday school class of the Methodist church will have a pot luck picnic Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Burk, 53 Rose avenue. Those at tending are asked to bring table service, and dinner will be served on the lawn at 6:30 p. m Yorton On Leave Bryan Yorton, PhM2c, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Yor ton, route 3, while on a 30-day leave from the navy following his arrival In the U. S. from the South Pacific. Yorton has spent the past 25 months with amphi bious forces in that theater. Maassen Dies Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Humphries have received word of the death of J. H. Maas sen, former resident of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Maassen left the city about 10 years ago to make their home in Los Angeles. Fu neral services will be held at Steins Chapel in North Holly wood Thursday. VFW Meeting Crater Lake Post No. 1833 and auxiliary. Vet erans of Foreign Wars, will meet in the armory Tuesday at 8 p. m. for initiation. Merchant Mariner Home Danny . Childers, junior engi neer with the merchant marine, Is visiting his mother, Mrs. N. B. Childers, 620 South Oakdale avenue, while on leave from the service following his arrival in the States this week from the Marshall Islands. Childers has been in the service since June of last year- Promoted Clifton R. Pond, former Medford resident and chaplain for the district Civilian Conservation Corps, now divi sion chaplain for the 41st divi sion in the Pacific, has been promoted from major to lieuten ant colonel, friends in Medford learned today In a letter from the officer. Lt. Col. Pond, whose wife resides in San Francisco. has served for the past four years with the corps in the south Pacific. On Furlough Cpl. Delbert W. Howell, with his wife and son and father-in-law, Mr. Marvin, has been visiting relatives and friends in the valley for the past week. Howell is on a 30-day furlough after duty in the Euro pean theatre of operations, where he was with a medical unit. He wears the good conduct medal, Presidential unit citation and eight battle stars. His moth er, Mrs. F. E. Garle, resides at Grants Pass, and sister, Mrs. W. R. Bibby at Ashland, and an other sister, Mrs. Lothel Stevens on route 4, Medford. - Another sister from Berkeley, Calif., and a brother from Rogue River at tended a family reunion in Ash land park Sunday.
