A. Hooten's "Up Dr. Brady From the Ape," anthropologist Hooten asserting that some hair has only brown pigment while other hair has both brown ana rea-goia pigment. But then, I don't give a hoot as the painters observ ed when they saw me decorat ing the garage: "Doc, you don't give a damn what color it is as long as it's green, hey?" Let the anthropologist apply any fancy name he likes, all human hair is brown, and that's that. All nr hrown. too. if discrep ancy hunters care to try and winlro nnvthlng of it. Worried about what other people to whom I have mailed the pamph let must think of me. This is the first time the discrepancy has been spotted, so far as I know. Brother, my whole face is red, as well as my nose. First, on p. 17, I say: "Cutting the hair does not make it grow faster . . . Likewise shaving doesn't make hair or beard grow faster or heavier, but one with faster growing or heavier beard needs to shave more frequently. My friend Dr. C. regularly shav ed the hair from one arm for a year or more. Then he stopped shaving the arm. In a few months there was no difference In the hair on his two arms." That's all very good, my sharp eyed reader says, but on p. 19 1 make the bald assertion about superfluous hair that prompts him to ask whether my pamphlet Is worth what his copy cost him. I say: "A fine down covers the entire surface of a woman's skin except the soles and the palms. This down is practically invisible ex cept under close scrutiny. The age of 14 to 18 may be called the age of close scrutiny. But the girl who begins removing hair from her skin lets herself in for a lot of needless trouble and an noyance, for shaving, whether by means of razor, pumice or the chemical depilatories (which dis solve the hair), tends to stimu late the down into heavier or coarser growth." Perhaps I could have saved myself from the charge had I appended to that statement the caution that it applies to the in visible down only, not to beard or hair. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Chrmlral Preservation Recipe for canning corn rolls for addition of one-hnlf tnblcsnoonfnl of none rtcio: to the pint Jnr. an ordinnry serving for one meal. If the university adminis tration Is advised in time there will be ample housing for all. Dean Karl W. Onthank, head of personnel administration, be lieves. But, he advises, time must be Allowed so that prepara tions can be made. Applications for dormitory rooms are being received by Mrs. Genevieve Turnipseed, director of dormitories. The co-operative houses on the campus, four for women and one for men, are now taking applications from quali fied students. And two new so rorities Delia Zeta and Zeta Tau Alpha will swell the cap acity of the sororities on the campus. Warning is given that rooms off the campu3 will be scarce and students should not rely on ob-1 taining housing from this source The only certain way to obtain housing, Dean Onthank states, is to file application for the desired university facilities immediately. Dentist Invents Compressed Air Drilling Device Chicago, Aug. 1 (U.R) The days of the dreaded dentist's drill may be numbered. The American Dental Associa tion journal announced In its August issue today that a new method of drilling teeth has been developed in which a stream of compressed air is substituted for the conventional drill, eliminat ing pain, heat and vibration. The association describes tne new technique as "revolution ary." It was developed by a Texas dentist, Dr. Robert B. Black, Corpus Christ), who said in his report that his method, named "Airbrasive," employs for its ac tion a very fine, almost pinpoint stream of compressed air into which a suitable finely divided abrasive agent has been intro duced." Dr. Black said that though he had used the drill on a limited number of patients, all preferred the new method. The apparatus resembles the conventional drill but it has no moving parts to make a grind- J ing sound nor to cause discom- i fort usually associated with tooth I repair, Dr. Black said.
