LOCAL and Meeting Thursday Royal Neighbors of America will meet Thursday at 8 p. m. at the K. of P. hall. Auxiliary Meeting Ladies auxiliary No. 421 Carpenters and Joiners of America of Medford will meet at the carpenters hall at 8 p. m., Friday, Aug. 3, ac cording to Lula G. Watson, sec retary. Ladies are requested to bring sandwiches. Visiting Grandmother Now visiting at the home of their grandmother, Mrs. H. C. Whit ney in Jacksonville are Norman and Clarence Surber, both on 30-day navy leaves after duty in the Pacific. Norman will report next to Portland and his brother goes to Boise, Idaho. . Eagles Meeting Crater Lake Aerie No. 2093 and auxiliary will meet Thursday in the Eagles hall, 219 W. Main street, at 8 p. m. Bill Lawrence, chair man of the entertainment com mittee, has planned a social eve ning after a short session, and a dance will conclude the evening. To Make Home Here Mrs. Rena Tippin, former Medford resident, who returned here re cently to make her home, has as her guest Miss Gladys McGau hey, of Eugene. Mrs. Tippin, who had been living in Portland while her husband, an army ser geant, has been overseas, is also expecting -to have as her guest soon, her son Tommy Collie, navy petty officer who has been on duty in the south Pacific. In Hospital Pfc. Philip J. Henselman is now in the army hospital at Ft. Warren, Wyo., re covering from slight injuries re ceived in an army plane crash last weekend. Henselman was returning to his station at Ft. Sheridan, III., after spending a furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Hensel man, 415 Edwards street, when the plane crashed, injuring sev eral occupants, according to word received by his parents. Visiting Brother Miss Betty Dunlevy of Akron, Ohio, is vis iting in Medford at the home of her brother, Sgt. and Mrs. Dun levy and son, 243 N. Holly street. Arriving here last Wed nesday, she plans to remain an other week before returning to Ohio, where she is, employed at the General Tire factory and makes her home with her father, James J. Dunlevy, Sr. Miss Dun levy visited Lake O'Woods Sun rinv and states that she has been considerably impressed by the mountains, lumber trucks and valley industries on her first vis it to the west coast. She com ments particularly on the pride of local residents in natural re sources of the area, and the abundance of food, especially meat, as the Ohio markets have suffered a severe meat shortage in recent months. Thorndikes Return Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Thorndike have re turned to their residence on Nob Hill after spending the week-end by the "sad sea waves" near, Crescent City, Calif. Guests Leave Mr. and Mrs. John Scott of Pasadena, Calif., and their guest, Miss Esther Clink of Hollywood, left in the Scotts' private plane yesterday for the south, after spending the week-end here as house guests of Mrs. Scott's sister and her hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter- To Alaska Mrs. Francis Snook and son, Bobby, left the city today by plane for their home in Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs- Snook arrived July 1 and has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jones, 10 Quince street. Her young son has made his home with his grandparents for the past nine months. To Alaska Mrs. Marguerite Mills plans to leave Medford sometime after August 15 for Alaska where she expects to re hiain at least a year. Formerly connected with the Ashland school system, Mrs. Mills has taught at Medford senior high school for the past few years, serving also as dean of women. Codding Home Ensign George Codding, Jr., is now on leave from the navy at Boston, Mass., visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Codding, Sr., and sister, Gail, at the Codding home, 1015 Queen Anne avenue. The officer's ship has just re turned from duty in the Medi terranean area, and he will be in Medford another six days. - On Furlough Cpl. W. Kasper is in Medford on furlough from Camp Bowie, Tex., visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kas per, Old Stage road. Cpl. Kas per's wife who has been with him in Texas for the past four months, accompanied him here and plans to remain in Medford when he returns to his station at the end of a 10-day furlough. Hennet Return Mr. and Mrs. Max Henne returned to Medford Monday morning from Reno, Nevada, where they were mar ried July 23, and are now at home at 31 S. Barneburg road. Mr. Henne has resumed his du ties as manager of United Air lines' Medford office, and Mrs. Henne, the former Aurora Bur clson, will continue her work as owner and manager of Burel son's ladies' ready-to-wear store here. Sons Leave Yeoman Third Class Robert, Pfc- E. E. and Chief Commissary Steward Roy Wat son. Jr., sons of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Watson, Sr., of Thomas road, left the city last week after spending leaves from the serv ice with their parents. Yeoman Watson and his wife, the former Ella Mae Douglas, and is brother Roy. Jr., left Sunday for Bremerton, Wah., where both men will report to the naval base. The other brother left the first of the week to re port back to Ft- Sill, Okla. Ivie Home Lt. Robert G. Ivie is visiting his wife at the family home on route 4, on leave from the Sixth Ferry command base at Long Beach, Calif. McCurley, route 2. who has spent the past week visiting his parents, on leave from Camp Gordon, Ga., was to leave Medford this afternoon to report back to the camp. . To Lake Mrs- Donald Clark and hef daughter, Mrs. Walter Jones and Miss Jones, and Mr and Mrs. Charles Voorhies and children plan to leave Thursday for Lake O' Woods where they will occupy the Heine Fluhrcr cabin for a week or 10 days. (U.R) The song "I'm Beginning to See the Light" took on a new meaning for Adam Preis, young Emblem farmer, recently. Preis saw a rainbow at night 10:30 a. m , to be exact. The observer was at tending a War Bond rally when he glanced out of a window just after a shower and saw the rain bow. Other persons at the rally cerified the story and explained that there was an abundance of bright moonlight at the time the rainbow was seen.
