HARRY E. WILCOX KILLED IN ACTION. "He was always cheerful, wil ling and competent in whatever he did. His sense of humor nev er failed in even the toughest places. His ready smile and his cowboy boots were famous. Har ry was doing his Job and at his station when his summons came," said Lt. (jg) D. C. John son, head of department on a de stroyer, in a letter to Mrs. Lu cille Wilcox, telling her of the death of her son Harry Edmund Wilcox in action off Okinawa, May 27, 1945. I - Harry Wilcox attended Med ford schools and graduated from St. Mary's academy. He left Medford with the National Guard and when the local units returned to Medford he Joined the navy. He was assigned to night fighters with the amphibi ous forces. He was injured in a Marshall Island engagement and hospitalized at Pearl Harbor. Returning to duty Harry served as a radar instructor and later was assigned to a destroyer where he served a year as a ra dar operator. Wilcox was the son of the late Lucien Wilcox and Mrs. Lucilo Wilcox, who now lives in Port land where she is employed by the Veterans Administration.
