    HARRY E. WILCOX
KILLED IN ACTION.
"He was always cheerful, wil
ling and competent in whatever
he did. His sense of humor nev
er failed in even the toughest
places. His ready smile and his
cowboy boots were famous. Har
ry was doing his Job and at his
station when his summons
came," said Lt. (jg) D. C. John
son, head of department on a de
stroyer, in a letter to Mrs. Lu
cille Wilcox, telling her of the
death of her son Harry Edmund
Wilcox in action off Okinawa,
May 27, 1945.
I - Harry Wilcox attended Med
ford schools and graduated from
St. Mary's academy. He left
Medford with the National
Guard and when the local units
returned to Medford he Joined
the navy. He was assigned to
night fighters with the amphibi
ous forces. He was injured in a
Marshall Island engagement and
hospitalized at Pearl Harbor.
Returning to duty Harry
served as a radar instructor and
later was assigned to a destroyer
where he served a year as a ra
dar operator.
Wilcox was the son of the late
Lucien Wilcox and Mrs. Lucilo
Wilcox, who now lives in Port
land where she is employed by
the Veterans Administration.

TO
Moscow, July 27 (U.R) Japa
nese home propaganda is claim
ing that "suicide" balloons soon
will be sent to attack the United
States, according to the Red
army newspaper, Red Star.
Red Star quoted the Domei
Japanese news agency as report
ing the Japanese command in the
South Seas has said it soon will
send the suicide planes across
the Pacific.
The balloons, said the report,
would travel at 50,000 feet alti
tude and would reach the United
States in slightly more than 100
hours.
Merriment Enjoys
Mail Tribune On
Station at Guam
Y Copies of the Mail Tribune re
ceived by Herbert Merriman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Mer
riman of 515 N. Bartlett street,
now serving on Guam, are thor
oughly read and enjoyed and
then passed on to other valley
men stationed near him, accord
ing to word received from Mer
riman: . .
Merriman, who was recently
promoted to seaman first class,
writes that his newspapers are
given to Guy Corliss, who work
ed with Merriman's father eight
years with the California Oregon
Power company, and then to
Rodney Merriman, MoMM 1c,
of Ashjand who is with another
outfit on the island. From there,
other Oregon men claim the lo
cal news, the seaman says.
Merriman adds that he hopes
to see Mel Wright on Siapan
soon, as the two worked togeth
er at Snider's Dairy before
Wright entered the service.
