BIX MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE Your Hsalth and It's Care By DR. WILLIAM BRADY M.D. Render ihould addrcsj lnquirl toi Dr William Brady. 265 CI Camlna Beverly HUls. Calit. OH, WELL, I ASKED FOR IT My girl Friday, Monday, Tues day, Wednesday and Thursday came down with war work fe- v e r, resigned as vice - presi dent in charge of everything to work in an airplane plant at a compara tively low sal ary. So there was no one to caution me a g a 1 n st con- J . tests when I got a bit over- Dr. Brady heated here re cently and offered (a) to contrib ute $100 to the Red Cross for a menu or bill of fare or list of food items for three meals that will provide "the necessary quantities of the protective foods to supply what recognized nutri tion authorities consider the min imum daily ration of vitamins for adequate nutrition." I quote the words of my offer as pub lished here. Except three or four interest ing letters from professional peo ple this offer brought no an swers that is, no one submitted a menu or diet list. So I needled "our readers with another article in which I promised to pay off cheerfully if any one submitted "a specimen three-meal diet list of undoctored foods that will supply such recommended daily allowances of the vitamins" that is, the recommended daily allowances suggested by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council. This time I used an additional lure, promising to pay $ 100 to the first person submitting such a diet list and $100 to the Red Cross chapter or other charity he or she might designate. Well, here we go again. Ev ery mall brings a handful of fear fully and wonderfully construct ed lists, some of them a yard wide and containing enough in- formation to fill, a book, about vitamins, calories, minerals and heaven knows what else, with footnotes enlightening me upon various aspects of the subject of nutrition. THE GRANGE Pomona Gringt Regular meeting of Jackson County Pomona Grange will be held al Eagle Point July 28 at 8 p. m Important resolutions will be discussed; snd for the pro gram a girls' drill team from ( r1 A t 1,4 S 1 Monday, July 23, 1945 I give up folks. I tremble and go all limp whenever I look at that growing pile of answers. It will ruin me to pore through all that heterogeneous mass of esti mates and guesses in search of a possible bill of fare concealed therein. It will make me so grumpy that even the kids and the kids are my preferred custo mers always will lose confi dence in me, and we can't afford to take that chance. So I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to declare the contest off on the ground that nobody qualified, and pay the $200 to the Red Cross, provided no reader who submitted a list formally claims he or she com plied with the conditions. Shall we turn the prize money over to the American Red Cross (no particular chapter) the last of July? If this compromise doesn't suit you there is still time enough to squawk about it. In any case I hereby announce that the con test is closed. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Dampness In your column I read: "I'm from Missouri In respect to several fine old medical traditions, and particularly: 1. That any Ulness Is caused by cold, dampness, exposure, sudden change, draft." Do you mean to infer that a damp climate Is not conductive to such disorders as asthma, catarrah, sinus infection and bronchitis, as we have Ben Told by doctors . . . ? (Rev. ) Answer- I do so declare but then who am I to pit my freak notion against the learned quarks and nos trum monger who educated the Yan kee public about such matters? But 1 11 tell you what I'll do send me a stamned envelope bearing your ad dress, and write on your professional stationery and I'll send you with my compliments a copy of booklet "Call It Crl" If this doesn't convert you. you're hopeless. To others than clergy men and doctors of medicine, the booklet cost twenty-five cents. Calcium and Rheumatlz My husband, a bookkeeper, has had wondertul results from the calcium and vltumln D capsules you suggested for his arthritis. It was In his fingers and made holding pencil or pen very painful But he Is almost entirely free ef It now and we are grateful. (Mrs. H. O. Therefore he should go on eating It the year around or else readjust his diet and dally exposure to sunshine. On request (no olipplng. plensc) I am glad to send the fiamphlct ''Calcium and Rheumatll" t you provide stamped envelope bear ing your address. (Copyright 11149 by John rTDllle Co.)
