But your letter, sir, makes me unhappy. Even though it is the only reaction of its kind I have had from my one-man campaign to dignify and strengthen the love of husband and wife, never theless it mokes me wonder whether hundreds or thousands of readers may not have received a similar impression from my harangues on that subject. What to do? Drop the whole thing? Suspend further discus sion until I can determine the general reaction and effect, If any? But I'm not making any hasty decision about this, except in re gard to the schedule I had planned this was to have been busy day with a number of things constructed and pigeon holed in mind to be executed to day. But I can't do that now. I'm off to the bowling green. Three hours of amnesia there will, I expect, make things look different. In any event, even if this cor respondent or any other layman could see whether the doctor ac tually removes the appendix or not which is highly improbable certainly no physician or sur geon who is honest or capable would consent to operate or give any kind of care or treatment under such censorship or sur veillance. If that is a reason why the husband should remain with his wife during delivery, I'd change sides on the issue like a shot. une eastern pnysician of a group of three engaged in the practice of gynecology and ob stetrics exclusively, agrees that my suggestcion has much to rec ommend it philosophically" but gives me these practical objec tions to it: 1. Most delivery rooms are so small that the husband would be in the way of doctors and nurses. 2. The husband is likely to get overanxious and demand sur gical intervention. 3. I find I have to divert time and attention from the pa tient to the keeping of the overanxious husband or other relative in hand. NIGHTS !T TUTTLE IS HONORED FOR RAID OVER TOKYO News of the award of the dis tinguished flying cross to TSgt, Robert M. Tuttle, air corps gun ner, has been received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Tut tle, Valley View drive. The award was given to members of Tuttles crew for participation in a raid over Tokyo, and the citation reads: "For extraordinary achieve ment while participating in aerial flight on Jan. 9, 1945, as combat crew members of a B-29 aircraft on a bombing mission against an important aircraft factory in Tokyo. Encountering severe weather conditions, they became separated from their group shortly after take-off, but succeeded in rejoining the forma tion just before reaching the initial point. "From landfall to the target, they flew through heavy and ac curate anti-aircraft fire and In tense enemy fighter attacks. Their aircraft sustained consider able damage, and after a direct hit by enemy flak the number 4 engine was feathered. Undaunt ed by the enemy opposition and despite the loss of 'one Cngine and the damaged condition of their aircraft, they bombed the war plant with excellent results. The courage and determina tion demonstrated by each of these individuals in overcoming such obstacles to strike the en emy contributed materially to the success of this mission, and reflect great credit on them selves and the army air forces." I Tuttle has completed 30 mis sions now, and holds the purple heart medal and the air medal with two oak leaf clusters. He graduated from Medford high school with the class of 1942, and entered the service in Aug ust of that year. Tuttle partici pated in the first B-29 raid over Tokyo. Samuel Hamilton First to Return On Point System Samuel P. Lewis where he received an honorable discharge May 31 after four and one-half years in the air force, and was told by his selective service that he was the first man from Jack son county to receive a discharge on the point system. At present Hamilton and his wife are visit ing with her parents at their home in Spokane, Wash. On his second mission the plane on which Hamilton was a crew member was hit by an other B-17 killing seven of the nine crew members. Sgt. Ham ilton has been awarded the pres idential citation, the air medal with four oak leaf clusters and the European African Middle Eastern service medal.
