Ford Home Edward E. Ford, SFlc, arrived home Saturday titer duty in the South Pacific, where he last saw action on Oki nawa. Ford is visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ford, , 1114 West Eighth street, on a 30- 3ay leave. T Fire Calls Firemen were called to the vacant lot at Chest nut and Main streets twice yes terday to extinguish fires. One run was made at noon to put out a grass fire and the other yester day evening to extinguish a trash fire. Auto Mishap Police investi gated an auto accident yesterday at the corner of Genessee and Jackson streets when M. E. Walter, 535 Mary street, lost control of the car he was operat ing while going east on Jackson street. According to city police, Walter's auto knocked down a street sign and ran up a guy wire, causing little or no dam age. Roseborough, 718 West Main street, is spending a two weeks' furlough with his parents from the army air base at Mt. Home, Idaho. Rosebor ough has been with the air force for three years. Eagles Meeting Crater Lake Aerie No. 2093 and auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles, will meet Thursday at the Eagle's hall, 219 W. Main street, for a social evening, it was announced today by William Lawerence, en tertainment chairman. A dance will conclude the evening. Pierce Home Pfc. Farnell Pierce, son of Mrs. C. L. Pierce of route 2, box 185, is now home on furlough after his recent re turn to the United States from Europe. A member of the 104th or Timberwolf division, Pierce participated in the German cam paigns and was awarded the combat infantryman badge. Spencers Here First Sgt. William Spencer, with his wife and daughter, Dianna Dell, ar rived in Medford yesterday to spend 10 days visiting the ser geant's mother, Mrs. Gertrude Engli of Berrydale. Spencer is stationed in a base unit squadron at Sarasota, Fla., and has been in the air corps five and a half years. . Vogel Promoted Carl (Pete) Vogel, stationed at Couscevelle, Belgium, has been promoted from private to corporal, and was awarded two battle stars at Brussels, 60 miles from Cource velle in a truck formation on July 4, Cpl. Vogel also holds the purple heart medal which he re ceived at Brest, France, and a good conduct ribbon. He has been overseas since August of 1944. Sergeant Here Sgt C. B. McCracken, who has been in the European theater of operations for the past four months, arrived here today to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McCracken, 1129 Niantic. The sergeant and his parents will leave tomorrow for a stay at Diamond Lake after which Sgt. McCracken will go to Camp Lockett, San Diego, to i visit his wife, the former Flor-! ence Howe, a lieutenant in the J WACs. j Representative Coming Paul M. Elliott, stationed on Salpan with the navy Seabees, has been pro moted from second class to first class petty officer, according to word received by his wife who makes her home at 715 S. Holly street. Elliott is a carpenter's mate, and has been overseas 14 months. Nail Here Jack R. Nail, former Medford resident, is in the city today en route from Wenatchee, Wash., to Oakland, Calif., where he will assume duties as director of research for the Pacific coast agricultural and chemical division of Sherwin Williams company. Nail was with the Southern Oregon Sales for three years before leaving to Join the Sherwin-Williams com pany last Oct. 1, and he and his wife and two children lived in Medford. . Phettftolfte Datum. Nissen after a meet ing of the convention committee here. The committee adopted recom mendations of Department Com mander Penn C. Crum of Hood River, who pointed out that while the Legion might go ahead with the convention, he felt the ex-service men should lead the way in curtailing travel in the interest of the war effort and in compliance with the requests of ODT and other governmental agencies.
