' , Weills Arrive Today Mr. and Mrs. John Weills and two chil dren arrive today from their home in Eureka, Calif., to spend two weeks with Mr. Weills' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. S. Weills of 30 Keene Way. From San Francisco Dan Eowerman, United Press district superintendent, arrived Satur day to join Mrs. Bowerman who has been visiting the past four weeks at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tim mons, Route 3. Mr. and Mrs. Bowerman planned to leave for their home in San Francisco late Saturday. . 1 Receives Award Cpl. Alfred R. Mercer, with a bomb disposal squad in France, has been awarded the bronze star, accord ing to word received by his wife, who resides at the home of her mother, Mrs. John Mace, Route I, Central Point. V Officer Here Lt. (J.g.) Allyn A. Monroe arrived in Medford yesterday on leave from the naval air station at Ottumwa, la. The officer is visiting his wife and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Roberts, 1815 Crown Hill road, for 15 days. On Leave Lt. (J. g.) Bob Mace, Is in the city with his wife and son on leave from the navy at Portland. The family is visiting at the home of Mrs. Mace's mother, Mrs. John Mace, Route 1, Central Point. ' -f- ' Dubuque Home SSgt. Joe Dubuque is visiting his wife and son at their home, 406 Beatty street, on a 90-day furlough from the army hospital at Walla Walla, Wash. Sgt. Dubuque was wounded while in action with the 91st division in Italy and arrived in the States in June. Besi Here R. S. Besse, as sistant director of the Oregon Extension stations, visited the valley Friday on a routine' trip to Inspect the branch station at Talent, and the Medford Exten sion station on King's highway, which is connected with the di vision. He returned Friday eve ning to Corvallis. Receives Bronte Star Sgt. Frank J. Hayner, topographic engineer in the air corps sta tioned in India for the past 20 months, was awarded the bronze star last week, according to in formation received by his moth er, Mabel Hayner of 402 N. Oak dale avenue. No further infor mation concerning the award has been received. A graduate of Medford high school with the class of 1942, Hayner worked at the Kay Lithograph company before entering the army. In Army William David Re gan was inducted into the army at Ft. Lewis, Wash., June 29 through Jackson county selec tive service board No. 1, In Butte Falls Sgt. Nelson Best arrived home Wednesday from Camp Bowie, Tex. and is visiting his wife in Butte Falls on furlough. Sgt. Best will re port back to the camp July 15. Applies For Permit Donald A. Forbes, corner of O'Gara ave nue and Jasper street, applied for permit yesterday at the city superintendent's office to re model a shed and build an addi tion at a cost of $3000. Cars Collide Cars operated by Mary H. Wagner, 1617 North Riverside avenue, and Verlin B. Siler, Central Point, were dam aged considerably Friday when they collided on East Main street, according to an accident report on file with city police. Receives Award Pfc. Ken neth E. Hood, stationed in the Philippines, recently was award ed the combat infantryman's badge. Pfc. Hood has been in the army since , November, 1944, and went overseas in April of this year. His wife and two sons are making their home at 505 Benson street, and his mother, Mrs. Alice Hood, resides at 127 Almond street. Medfordites In Reunion Captain and Mrs. Kenneth Ed wards of Medford, now living in Chandler, Ariz., spent last week end visiting SSgt. and Mrs. A. K. Morse, also of Medford, but now living In Douglas, Arir. Sgt. Morse is stationed at Doug las air base and Captain Ed wards is flying B-25s out of Wil liams Field. Captain Edwards was formerly employed by Morse who owns the Valley Music company here. They had not seen each other since 1941 when Captain Edwards Joined the air force. "Main street, has arrived in Hawaii for fur ther assignment in the Pacific area as an American Red Cross staff assistant, according to word received from the Red Cross na tional headquarters. Until her present appointment, Miss Hodg kins was employed by Southern Pacific company In San Fran cisco. She is a graduate of Med ford high school and Munson school, San Francisco, and at tended New York University. 'From Utah SSgt. Earl Har nlsh is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harnish, Eagle Point, on a 16-day furlough from the army at Ogden, Utah. The sergeant served overseas with the 41st division for 32 months and wears the purple heart, combat infantryman's badge, good conduct ribbon and the Asiastic defense ribbon with two bronze battle stars.
