la. The officer is visiting his

On Leave Lt. (J. g.) Bob Mace,
Is in the city with his wife and
son on leave from the navy at
Portland. The family is visiting
at the home of Mrs. Mace's
mother, Mrs. John Mace, Route
1, Central Point. The officer's
wife and son reside at Burns,
Ore.

Dubuque Home SSgt. Joe
Dubuque is visiting his wife and
son at their home, 406 Beatty
street, on a 90-day furlough from
the army hospital at Walla
Walla, Wash. Sgt. Dubuque was
wounded while in action with
the 91st division in Italy and
arrived in the States in June.
Besi Here R. S. Besse, as
sistant director of the Oregon
Extension stations, visited the
valley Friday on a routine' trip
to Inspect the branch station at
Talent, and the Medford Exten
sion station on King's highway,
which is connected with the di
vision. He returned Friday eve
ning to Corvallis.
Receives Bronte Star Sgt.
Frank J. Hayner, topographic
engineer in the air corps sta
tioned in India for the past 20
months, was awarded the bronze
star last week, according to in
formation received by his moth
er, Mabel Hayner of 402 N. Oak
dale avenue. No further infor
mation concerning the award
has been received. A graduate
of Medford high school with the
class of 1942, Hayner worked
at the Kay Lithograph company
before entering the army.

Best arrived home Wednesday
from Camp Bowie, Tex. and is

Cars Collide Cars operated

aged considerably Friday when
they collided on East Main
street, according to an accident
report on file with city police.
Receives Award Pfc. Ken
neth E. Hood, stationed in the
Philippines, recently was award
ed the combat infantryman's
badge. Pfc. Hood has been in
the army since , November,
1944, and went overseas in
April of this year. His wife and
two sons are making their home
at 505 Benson street, and his
mother, Mrs. Alice Hood, resides
at 127 Almond street.

Captain and Mrs. Kenneth Ed
wards of Medford, now living in
Chandler, Ariz., spent last week
end visiting SSgt. and Mrs. A.
K. Morse, also of Medford, but
now living In Douglas, Arir.
Sgt. Morse is stationed at Doug
las air base and Captain Ed
wards is flying B-25s out of Wil
liams Field. Captain Edwards
was formerly employed by
Morse who owns the Valley
Music company here. They had
not seen each other since 1941
when Captain Edwards Joined
the air force.

and Mrs. Ray Harnish, Eagle
Point, on a 16-day furlough
from the army at Ogden, Utah.
The sergeant served overseas
with the 41st division for 32
months and wears the purple
heart, combat infantryman's
badge, good conduct ribbon and
the Asiastic defense ribbon with
two bronze battle stars.
