LOCAL and PERSONAL Miss Williams Horn Miss Phyllis Williams has returned to her home from the University of Oregon where she has completed her freshman year. Miss Wil liams is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Williams. Route 4. Returns Mrs. James Keeble, Central Point, is expected home from Seattle today after spend ing the week-end visiting her husband, who was on leave from the merchant marine. Shults, 806 West Main street, re ported to police yesterday that four pieces of lawn hose, 25 and 50 feet in length, were stolen from his residence sometime Saturday night. Sees Sister Mrs. Shannon O. White, who returned to her home, 20 Ross Court Monday after spending a week In Wash ington, visited while there with her sister, Mrs. C. J. Bussell of Montreal, Canada. This was the first time in 26 years that the sisters had met. Collins Here First Lt. Hugh B. Collins, ATC (Maritime Sec tion), is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Collins, 2223 East Main street. Lt. Collins, who has been in the southwest Pacific since March, 1942, reports to Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Tex., July 14. Barber, who had been in the Pacific for eight months, recently was returned home for hospitalization. Returns Here Mrs. Violet Spencer returned last week from a several months' visit in Des Moines, la. She also visit ed her son, M. E. Spencer and her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Callan and families in Buffalo Gap, Sask., Canada. Promoted Marmie Olson has been promoted to chief warrant officer with the Seabees, accord ing to information received by Mrs. Olson, the advancement having been made June 11. He is currently on Okinawa island. Olson, with the Seabees since 1942, was formerly owner of the Olson Electric company here. This is his second tour of duty overseas. Mrs. Olson makes her home at 111 Newtown street. Return The Misses Joan El liott and Calista Farrell of Med ford and Miss Jean Lausman of Portland returned yesterday after a week's trailer camp va cation at Shady Cove. Miss Lausman, who is a sorority sis ter of Miss Elliott, returned to her home Monday evening. Miss Lausman and Miss Elliott are both students at the University of Oregon and Miss Elliott ar rived home to spend the sum mer with relatives here. Promoted Both Carol and Gerald Parker have both been advanced in rank recently, ac cording to information received by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Corcoran, Ross Lane. Carol Corcoran, elder of the two brothers, is now a master ser geant in the air corps stationed at Assan, India, and Gerald Cor coran has been advanced to chief motor machinist on an LST of the coast guard in the South Pa cific. Preliminary closing Dow-Jones averages: Industrial, 167.25, up 0.31; rail, 61.41, off 0.31; utility, 32.87, off 0.04; and 65 stocks, 64.53, off 0.03.
