LOCAL and ai-lntv To Mat--The Jack-arm County Medical society will meet Wednesday at the Hotel Jackson for a 7 o'clock dinner. Dr. R. E. Green will be host. It is stated that there will be no paper read at tbJs meeting. Official Coming Ed Hanzlik, assistant chief of the division of state and private forests of the National Forest service regional office in Portland will be in Med ford Saturday to confer with the staff of the Rogue River National Forest service. Grlgiby Home James C. Grigsby, third class petty officer of the naval air corps, is home on a 14-day leave from the sup ply depot at Alameda, Calif. The officer is visiting' his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Grigsby, 208 North Peach street. Club To Meet Phoenix Thursday club will meet at the home of Mrs. Andrew Stevens June 14 at 12:30 p. m. for a cov ered dish luncheon. Election of officers for the coming year will be held after luncheon and all members are asked to attend this meeting. ' Weyerhaeuser Man Here Hugh Campbell, assistant mana ger of the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company, Klamath Falls, was in Medford Monday where he con ferred with Clarence Winetrout, chairman of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce commit tee on road development. Here From Portland Mr. and i Mrs. Bert Lowry and two daugh ters, Linda and Bonnie of Port land, are in Medford and are guests at the home of Mr. Low ry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lowry, Sr., Bear Creek Orch ards. Mr. Lowry will look after orchard interests while in the valley. Trucks Collide Two logging trucks operated by Andrew De Graff, Jacksonville, and Cecil Michael, 517 Western avenue, collided Saturday on the State Forest road, an accident report on file today states. Damage es timated at $300 was taused to Da Graff's truck, according to the report. To Go Overseas Dr. W. G. Bishop, former Medford physi cian and surgeon, now a lieutenant-commander in the navy med ical corps, has been assigned to overseas duty, a letter from the doctor states. Cars Collide Autos driven by Scott Victor Davis and Lenore Jeanette Wall, Rt. 2. collided at Main street and Central avenue yesterday, city police reported today. No damage was caused to Davis' car, the report said. Leaves For Conference Pfc. Harmon R. Peters, Medford, will leave today for San Francisco where he will serve with the army at the United Nations Con ference on International rela tions. Peters has been in Med ford for the past few days on leave. Aliens Here Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Allen, and small son, Terry of Portland, are in Med ford and will spend Mr. Allen's annual vacation here visiting their parents and friends in Medford and Phoenix. Mr. Al len, a former resident of Med ford, is employed by the Port land Oregonlan. Officer Here Lt. John A. Hunter arrived in Medford yes terday on leave from the army engineers and is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Cuffel, 809 North Central ave nue. The officer arrived In the States Saturday from the Paci fic theater of operations where he has spent the past two and one-half years. Corporal Home Cpl. Rudy Frohreich, son of H. A. Froh relch, 304 North Holly street, is in Medford for the week visiting at the family home. He was home a short time ago on a 45 day furlough after arriving in the states following 26 months' service in Africa, Corsica, and Italy. He will report to Santa Ana air base for reassignment. Home On Leave Miss Nancy Wall, Sk3c In the WAVES, ar rived In Medford last night to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Wall, Ross Lane, for about a week. She is stationed at the naval air station at Ottumwa, la. DAMAGE SUIT ON ACCIDENT STARTS A jury was selected and scene of the accident visited yesterday in the circuit court trial of James H. Nunes against Maurice J. Woodson and Alonzo R. Hardin for $15,000 personal injury dam ages. Nunes, in his complaint, alleges negligence and careless ness of both defendant in the operation of two logging trucks that collided on the Dead Indian road last July 1. Nunes also seeks approximate ly $2000 special damages for hos pital and physician fees. He was a passenger in the truck that went of fthe grade. Logs toppled on the truck cab, injuring Nunes and necessitating the amputation of his left arm above the elbow. Taking of testimony started to day at opening of. court. 98 Nisei Sentenced For Refusing Duty Phoenix, Ariz., June 12 (U.R) U. S. District Judge Dave W. Ling today sentenced 98 Japanese-American draft resisters to one year in prison. Sentence was imposed on de fendants in three test cases but is binding on all of the other Nisei from the Poston Relocation Center at Parker, Ariz., who re fused to respond to selective service calls.
