NEGLECTED TEETH AND In a survey of 103 young pa. llents with infantile paralysis In Baltimore during an epidemic last year it was found that no less than 67 of the stricken children h a teeth so badly decayed tha the pulps were exposed. For e o m p a r .4 son, 108 other ' V children w h did not have Infantile paral Dr. Brady amined, and 28 ysls were ex of them had teeth so badly decayed that the pulps were exposed ' Whether this difference has any significance concerning the susceptibility of children to in fantile paralysis (poliomyelitis) the Baltimore investigators did not say. They simply published their observations In the May '49 Issue of The Journal of tha American D n t a 1 Association: and recommended "that a field study be conducted in which all the exposed pulps of one group be eliminated several months be fore the seasonal onset of the disease (infantile paralysis), while in a similar control group, the incidence of pulpal expos ures should be recorded, but no dental treatment administered Such a study, the investigators suggested, would Indicate the importance of pulpal exposure as a portal of ontry for tho polio myelitis virus. It has been generally recog nized by the medical profession that a common portal of entry if not the portal of entry of the polio virus is the lining of the upper respiratory act, by way of the nerves of smell, some in vestigators believe that, in some eases the polio virus enters by way of the gastro-lntestlnal tract, being ingested In polluted wa ter or milk or other food.j. In another talk we'll deal more in detail with the ways the disease enters the system. Mr. and Mrs. Bond are leaving this week end for Madras, Oregon, where Mr. Bond has accepted the foreman job on the large Hay Creek ranch. Friends of Mrs. George Jeros met at the home of Mrs. Halvar Haukli, May 25, to bid her fare well. Mr. Jaros, grade school principal here for the past year, has accepted a similar position at Walla Walla, and together with Mrs. Jaros and three children, moved there the first of this week. Mrs. ' Clara Uhly returned from Helena, Mont., May 26, ac companied by Robert, Franklin, Andrew, and Alberta Bahr, who will make their home here with their father, Otto Bahr. The Bahr children have been staying at a boarding school at Helena since the death of their mother, several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Horn buckle motored to Grants Pass, May 26, and spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Dale Griffen and children. Mr.. Hornbuckle returned here Sunday, while Mrs. Hornbuckle and daughters went on to Koseburg, to visit a day, before going to Portland and Camas, Wash., They were accompanied north by Mrs. Hornbuckle'g mother, Mrs. John Herman of Roseburg.- Mrs. Albert Clayton left last week for Camp Lee,- Va., to spend a few weeks with her hus band.
