Orin Schenck, chairman, announced today. Private Leaves Pvt. J. E. Parmenter left for the Presidio, San Francisco Calif., last night after visiting with Mr. and Mrs, Dorr R. Hoffman, 48 Willamette avenue. Pvt. Parmenter recently returned from overseas and will report back to the signal corps at the Presidio. Board To Meet Jackson County League of Women Vot ers board will meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Justin Smith, 21 Geneva street, at 7:45 p. m. Mrs. Smith states that the meet ing is unusually important, since plans will be completed for the annual meeting, to be held May 12, and for sending delegates to the state conference May 17. Traffic Mishaps Cars driven by Dr. J. P. Bray, 423 Medford Center building, and Mrs. H. B Murphy, Rt. 2, collided on 6th street this morning when Mrs Murphy's car turned on to Sixth from Holly street, according to an accident report on file Amount of damage was not stat ed. Another report filed yester day stated that damage estimat ed at $300 was caused to a pick up truck driven by Francis B. Russell, Central Point, when it collided on Beatty street with an army ambulance driven by Sgt. John Tichy, of Camp "White. DIAL 4980 On Leave John M. McCabe, Sl-c, is visiting his wife and chil dren at the family home, 301 Valley View drive, while on leave from the coast guard. McCabe-is stationed at the naval air base at Patuxent river, Md and will leave May 8 for the base. Navyman Home Marlon Hardy, SM3-c, arrived home yes terday after serving 14 months with the navy in the South Pa cific. Hardy is visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Hardy, Jacksonville. He will report back to Portland at the end of a 30-day leave. Eagles To Meet Crater Lake Aerie No. 2093 and auxiliary, F.O.E., will meet in the Eagles' hall Thursday at 8 p. m. for the annual election of officers for both groups. Plans will also be made for initiation of a large class of candidates May 27. A dance will conclude the evening. Juniors To Meet Members of the Junior department of the First Presbyterian church were reminded today of the recrea tional night scheduled for to night at the church from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. The meeting has been set up one day from the usual Wednesday date. Plans will be completed for the annual Mother's Day program and a large attendance Is desired. I WANTED IN DRIVE Junior Chamber of Commerce officials today requested no more clothing be turned in for the United Nations clothing drive. Chamber officials said the. drive officially closed in Medford April 17 but clothes have con tinued to be donated. Over two tons of clothes were turned in after the drive closed, it was said. Reginald A. Stagg. who was chairman of the drive, said the chamber has no place to store clothing and urges people to save it for the next drive. Japanese Prepare For Yank Landing In Hongkong Area With Chinese Forces on the Western Front, May 1 U.R) The Japanese are preparing for a possible American landing at Hongkong after the battle of Okinawa, high American officers said today. The enemy has stationed at least 250,000 troops along a cor ridor from Canton to Hongkong, the officers estimated. Nearly 100,000 Japanese troops have made progress in a drive toward the 14th AAF air field at Chihkiang in Hunan pro vince. If the Japanese knock out Chihkiang they can keep the Hankow railway repaired for use in moving troops to Hong kong. The Americans would have to land many more troops at Hongkong if Chinkiang falls than would be necessary at pres ent. May 1 (U.R) Woof, five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who killed her 21-months-old mistress, was reveal ed today to have paid for the at tack with her life. . Attorney Joseph Scott, repre senting the baby s parents, Sgt. and Mrs. Charles Derdenger, said the dog was asphyxiated last night. Woof's death ended months of legal wrangling between the Der- dengers, who sought to have their pet executed by city au thorities, and dog lovers through out the nation. Little Marguerite was killed last Feb. 13 when Woof, appar ently jealous 'of attentions be stowed on the baby, seized tne child at the base of her skull and shook the life out of her.
