Japanese Prepare
For Yank Landing
In Hongkong Area
With Chinese Forces on the
Western Front, May 1 U.R)
The Japanese are preparing for
a possible American landing at
Hongkong after the battle of
Okinawa, high American officers
said today.
The enemy has stationed at
least 250,000 troops along a cor
ridor from Canton to Hongkong,
the officers estimated.
Nearly 100,000 Japanese
troops have made progress in a
drive toward the 14th AAF air
field at Chihkiang in Hunan pro
vince. If the Japanese knock out
Chihkiang they can keep the
Hankow railway repaired for
use in moving troops to Hong
kong. The Americans would
have to land many more troops
at Hongkong if Chinkiang falls
than would be necessary at pres
ent.
