FOUB MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Barbara Brewer Married Sunday To Cadet Cross Announcement has been made of the wedding of Miss Barbara Anne Brewer, daughter of Mr. Chauncey M. Brewer, 18U East Main street, and the late Mr. Brewer, to Warren Christian Gross, U. S. Merchant Marine cadet and a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Gross of Stockton, Calif. The vows were read Easter Sunday at the Mission Dolores in San Francisco by Father Scan Ian, the service taking place at three o'clock In the afternoon. The bride's wedding costume was an afternoon dress of salm on pink with which she wore a small floral hat and a short veil. Her bouquet was of orchids. Attendant for the bride was Miss Bcrniece Burtes of San Francisco who wore a turquoise dress with a flowered hat and orchid corsage. Best man for the groom was John Fortney, Jr., cadet in the merchant marine. Following the wedding cere mony a wedding dinner was served at the Whitcomb Hotel. Mrs. Gross will remain in Medford whllo the groom, who has completed sea training with the merchant marine, will report to the United States Merchant Marine academy at King's Point, Long Island, to complete his training. The bride, a graduate of Medford high school later attended the University of Fort land School of Nursing and Franklin Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco. Be fore entering service the groom was a student at the College of the Pacific in Stockton. Mrs. Brewer traveled to San Francisco to attend the wedding. Zuleima Temple . Plana Meeting And Ceremonial A luncheon, ceremonial and Installation of new officers will be held by Zuleima Temple, No. 13, Daughters of the Nile, when the group meets in Medford, Saturday, April 14. A stated session and the cere monial will be held at two o'clock at the Medford Masonic Tempi. About 25 candidates arc to b initiated. In the evening installation of officers is planned for eight o'clock, with Mrs. H. T. Nordwick, Medford, to be in stalled queen of the temple. This ceremony Is for Daughters of the Nil and their escorts. The luncheon Is planned for 12 o'clock at the Holland Hotel. Former Resident Passes in Vallejo Funeral services were held March 27, in Vallejo, Calif., for A. R. Garretson, former Medford resident who passed away Mar. 24 at th home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Lawrence, in Valle jo. Interment was In the Masonic cemetery there where his wife was buried March 27, 1940. Mr. Garretson was born In Maryland. He moved to Medford in 1910. For time h was fore man of th Big Pines planing mill. He left for Vallejo In 1916 and was employed at Mare Island as a ship Joiner until 1928 when he retired because of ill health. Besides Mrs. Lawrence, survi vors include another daughter. Mrs. Herbert Launspach, Stock ton, Calif., and a son, Freeborn Garretson, Vallejo. Legion Auxiliary Program Planned Mrs. Blanche Frisbie, public health nurse with th Jackson rounty health department, will he guest speaker at the meeting of the American Legion aux iliary Wednesday, April 11, at 8 p. m. in the armory club rooms. The program will be observance of child welfare month. IUS Cook-Wilson Rites Solemnized Here At Pastor's Home Miss Mildred Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Cook of Hopkins, Missouri, became the bride of Sgt. Quentin B. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Wilson of Mercedes, Texas, at a cere mony held Friday, March 30, in Medford. The service was read at the Methodist parsonage by the Rev. Louis C. Kirby at 10 o'clock in the evening. Miss Cook's wed ding costume was a smartly tailored suit of teal blue with tan and white accessories and a corsage of gardenias. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cook of Medford were matron-of-honor and best man. Also present were Mrs. Ruth Boyd and Mrs. Edna Hildcbrand. Following the ceremony a re ception was held for members of the immediate family anu close friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cook. After a short honeymoon, Sgt. Wilson report ed to Camp Bealc, Calif, for re assignment. The bride, who for the past year and a half has made her home here with the Cooks, her aunt and uncle, will remain in Medford for the present. Prospect Woman Honored Guest; Entertain Club Prospect Mrs. Gus Ditsworth and Mrs. Carl Richardson were hostesses for a shower honoring Mrs. Stanford Pearson, March 31 at the home of the former. Easter Party Held For Junior Club Thirty-eight children attended the Easter party given for the Degree of Honor Junior club March 31 at the home of the director, Mrs. Ida M. An Easter egg hunt featured the entertainment Guests were Mrs. Anhorn, Billle and Jeffrey Anhorn from Central Point; Mrs. Leota Hood and daughters, Helen and Su zanna, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Wal ter Johnson. FAITH CHURCH at Third St. Beverly Brooks, Lt. Paul McQuat Wed in Medford 1 Miss Beverly . Brooks, daugh i ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Brooks, 335 South Riverside avenue, became the bride of Lt, Paul C. McQuat at a service held Monday, March 28, at the Brooks' home. The ceremony was read at 8 o'clock in the eve ning by the Rev. L. C. Kirby. Setting for the marriage vows was the livingroom fireplace which had been arranged with spring flowers, palms and light ed white tapers. The traditional nuptial songs, "O Promise Me" and "Because" wire sung by Mrs. Mclvin Hoover, with Mrs. Ward McQuat at the piano, be fore the service. Mrs. McQuat also played' the wedding march. For her wedding Miss Brooks, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white chiffon and carried a bouquet of white rosebuds and sweet peas. Her maid-of-honor Miss Jacquelynn McBee, wore aquamarine with a corsage of pink rosebuds. Ward McQuat was best man for his brother. The bride's mother wore for the service a two-piece dress of blue with a gardenia corsage. A reception followed the rites, with the bride and groom cut ting the first slice of wedding cake. Mrs. C. C. Hoover com pleted the cutting' and Mrs. W. H. Lydiard, sister of the groom, poured. The serving table was decorated with white bridal wreath and Jonquils and tapers in crystal holders. The service and reception were attended by members of the families and close friends. Later Lt. McQuat and his bride left for a brief wedding trip and the officer then re turned to Smyrna Field in Ten nessee for reassignment with the air corps. Lt. McQuat, son of the late Paul Jones McQuat, has been in the air corps since 1942 and for a considerable period was an instructor at Bainbridge, Ga. Both Lt. and Mrs. McQuat are well known in the city. Both graduated from Medford senior high school, whore they were outstanding in activities. Mrs. McQuat is on the staff of the Medford corporation and is re maining, in Medford with her parents. 1 Mounted Troop Plans Meeting Ladies Mounted Troop mem bers will meet Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Frank Cullen, 614 South Holly street, to make further plans for the year's activities of the group. First spring meet ing of the troop was held last month tit the home of the presi dent, Mrs. C. Lyall Fldlcr, Ross Lane. The troop plans to begin drill as soon as weather permits. First public appearance of the yar was with the parade given ft returning' servicemen last 'eek. At Tuesday's meeting i plans win te mane lor resuming the breakfast rides with the Sheriff's Posse, the rides having proved very popular last sum mer and fall. Officers report an enlarged and enthusiastic membership is looking forward to a most suc cessful year for the troop. Daisy Doris De Berry of the marine corps wom en's reserve, to James Douglas Cain, USN, son of Mrs. J. H. Baker of Roseburg, Ore. The ser vice was solemnized at Oakland, Calif., March 29. Both bride and groom were in uniform for the service. A wed ding dinner was served at tho Shanghai Terrace Bowl and dur ing the evening the orchestra played 'The Marine Hymn", 'Anchors Aweigh" and "I Love You Truly" in honor of the newly married couple. Mrs. Cain, stationed at Hen. derson Hall, Arlington, Va., re ports fcr duty April 11 and will be accompanied east by her hus band, on leave for that time The groom, stationed at Vallejo, Calif., is a chief watcrtender iii the navy. Miss Mary Gritich Is Visitor In City Miss Mary Gritsch, who re cently enlisted in the navy nurse corps, is in Medford with rela tives until receiving reporting orders. Since graduating from nurses' training in Portland. Miss Gritsch has been employed there. She is visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gritsch 341 South Oakdale avenue, and her sister, Mrs. Maurice Rcavis, 236 South Oakdale avenue, a recent visitor here wbs Mrs Carroll Gritsch of San Francisco, , daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mr,. The service took place Monday at the Bap tist parsonage with the Rev WoUord A. Dawes performing the ceremony. The couple was unattended. Mrs. Dalkey has resided in Medford her entire life and is well known in the valley. Re cently she has resided at 100 Groveland avenue. Mr. Dalkey. who resided here many years ago, has made his home in Cali fornia for the past several years. Mr. and Mrs. Dalkey will leave Monday for Santa Clara where they will establish a home. 4 Lady Lions' Club Meets Last Week Twenty members attended the meeting of the Lady Lion3' club held Tuesday evening at the Girls' Community club. Hos tesses for dessert supper were Mrs. Thomas Flvnn, Mrs. O. H. Selby. Mrs. W. Klatt and Mrs. E. Atterbury, and a social evening followed. The supper tables were ar ranged with bouquets of spring flowers. Coos Bay Rildent To Visit In Medford Mrs. Victor Baird will arrive today from her home In roos Bay to spend several days as a house guest of Mrs. Elsie Grove, 301 N. Peach street. G. Viall in Phoenix celebrated the 60th wedding an-' niversary of the couple. Easter lilies and other spring flowers decorated the dinner table and living room. Present for the dinner were Mrs. G. O. Sanden, a daughter, and Mr. Sanden; Mrs. Jewell Parr, also a daughter, and Mr. Parr; Mr. and Mrs. Seth Waters.. Klamath Falls; Mr. and Mrs. E. H Pathman, and two sons, Med ford, Mrs. Dale McMullen and son. . Mr. and Mrs. Viall were mar ried in Spring Valley, Minn., In 1885. They have lived in the valley for many years and in Phoenix since 1927. . 4 Annual Guest Day Held Wednesday By Medford Club Wednesday Study club mem bers observed the annual guest day April 4 with a tea at the Girls' Community club. The club rooms were decorated with beau tiful arrangements of daffodils and spirea made by Mrs. H. T. Nichol and Mrs. J. W. Jacobs and a bowl of these spring blos soms centered the tea table. A program of music, in charge of Mrs. N. T. Hodges, was pre sented. Little Charlcne Stener son sang two songs, accompanied by Sonja Peterson, and Susan Brjll gave a group of accordion numbers. Three piano solos were played- by Sonja Peterson and the program closed with num bers by Miss Jean Farley and Miss Nancy Swem. Miss Farley sang four solos, accompanied by Miss Swem, and Miss Swem gave two piano solos. Guests were welcomed' by the club president, Mrs. Jacobs. They were Mrs. W. J. Faske of Pasadena, Mrs. C. D. Ludwig of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. G. R. Ringo, Mrs. Louis C. Kirby, Mrs. W. H. Bailey, Mrs. Bren H. Starcher, Mrs. Louis Brown, Mrs. E. H. Porter and Mrs. Maynard Putney. Mrs. H. L. Brown was chair man of the refreshment commit tee with Mrs. Frances Cochran, Mrs. F. K. Deuel, Mrs. W. Iver son and Mrs. Dolph Phipps as committee members. Miss Matti Mstney Entertains Group , Miss Mattie Matney entertain ed the S. F. Club on March 28 with a Sfc Patricks Party. Lunch ton was served at one o'clock and the afternoon was spent playing games. Table prizes went to Mrs. Etta Hydes, Mrs. Flor ence Rose, Mrs. Clara Tillie and game prizes to Mrs. Lucretia Jordan, Mrs. Viola Trautman and Mrs. Clara Tillie. Friesen. The wedding was solemnized Thursday, April 5, at two o'clock at 312 Alice street, where the couple has established a home. The Rev. C. W. Frost of the Apostolic Faith church officiat ed. The bride wore a white satin and chiffon gown with finger-tip veil and carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds with white stock. She was attended by Miss Anne Friesen of Portland, sister of the groom, who wore a powder blue gown and carried a nosegay of gardenias and pink carnations. Albert Friesen was best man. Members of the bridal party took their places as the "Indian Love Call" was played and Miss Naomi Frost sang "I Love You Truly", The guests included the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Young of North River side avenue, and the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. George Friesen of Dallas, Ore., Mrs. C. W. Frost and Miss Norma Bishop. A wedding dinner - followed the service and in the evening Mr. Friesen and his bride held open-house for a large group of relatives and friends and re freshments were served. Friday morning the couple left on the mainliner for San i Francisco where they are spend- j ing a few days. Friesen is an employee of the; Ordnance Service command. 4 Reunion is Held At Brinson Home A family reunion dinner was held last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Brinson, 4 Cargill Court, the affair hon oring the Brinson's son, Jimmie Brinson, third class radio techni cian in the navy, who was home on leave. This was the first time in six years that all members of the family had been together. The young man recently gradu ated from radio and radar school at Treasure Island. Present for the dinner were Mrs. Wayne Carothers and chil dren, Wayne, Jr., and Alene of Klamath Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bastiani and children, Bob bie and Ida Marie, Mrs. Gale Graham and small daughter, Su sanna, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gra ham and Mr. and Mrs. Brinson. Mrs. Carothers, Mrs. Bastiani and Mrs. Graham are daughters of the Brinsons and the Grahams are the parents of First Lt. Gale Graham, serving, with the Ninth Army in Europe.
