On Leave Virgil M. Davis, ART2C, arrived in Medford Monday from the naval base at San Diego. He Is visiting his wife, Thelma, at the home of her parents, .Mr. and Mrs. H. I Nichols, 609 West 2nd street, and will leave April 7 to report back to San Diego. In Mississippi Jerry Mc Dougall has been transferred to Gulfport, Miss., for training in the navy radio school there. He was formerly stationed at the Great Lakes Training station, Chicago. McDougall is the son of Mr. and Mrs A. J. McDougall, 418 South Oakdale avenue. Ensign Home Ensign R. H. Bauman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. . Bauman, 904 West 10th street, arrived home Sunday for a week's visit with his parents. Bauman, who was stationed at Pensacola, Fla will leave next Monday to report to the naval air base at Jacksonville, Fla. Servicemen Here Donald O. Cook, CRT, and wife, Dorothy,' Bind Sgt. and Mrs. Quenton B. Wilson are visiting at tha home of Cook's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Cook, 1205 East Main street. Cook is home for 30 days after serving 21 months sea duty in the Pacific aboard a baby flat top. He will report back to Atlantic City, N. J. Sgt. Wil son will return to duty 'at Ft. Temperatures dropped below the freezing mark from the Texas Panhandle to the Cana dian border, sending the mer cury down to the middle 20's t h r o u g h out Iowa, Nebraska Minnesota and the Dakotas. A low of 31 degrees was reported by the federal weather bureau in Chicago. Snow blanketed large sections of Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. Peculating Prexy Receives Pardon Baton Rouge, La.. April 5 (U.R) Dr. James Monroe Smith, former Louisiana State Univer sity president, had a state par don today from Gov. James H. Davis. He was serving an eight to 24-year sentence after being con victed of using university funds for personal speculation. Smith now must serve an 18 month federal sentence.
