and will leave April 7 to report
back to San Diego.
In Mississippi Jerry Mc
Dougall has been transferred to
Gulfport, Miss., for training in
the navy radio school there. He
was formerly stationed at the
Great Lakes Training station,
Chicago. McDougall is the son
of Mr. and Mrs A. J. McDougall,
418 South Oakdale avenue.
Ensign Home Ensign R. H.
Bauman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.
O. . Bauman, 904 West 10th
street, arrived home Sunday for
a week's visit with his parents.
Bauman, who was stationed at
Pensacola, Fla will leave next
Monday to report to the naval
air base at Jacksonville, Fla.

cold wave hit the midwest today
periling fruit crops in areas that
escaped damage In yesterday's
heavy snowstorm.
Temperatures dropped below
the freezing mark from the
Texas Panhandle to the Cana
dian border, sending the mer
cury down to the middle 20's
t h r o u g h out Iowa, Nebraska
Minnesota and the Dakotas. A
low of 31 degrees was reported
by the federal weather bureau
in Chicago.
Snow blanketed large sections
of Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin
and the Dakotas. Twelve Inches
of snow fell at Mason City, Io.,
yesterday and 15 inches was' re
ported at Land O Lakes, Wis.

Sees Work Boom

nard Barauch, President Roose
velt's personal emissary, believes
that for five to seven years after
the war there- will be "more
work in the United .States than
there are hands and minds with
which to do it."
Barauch, who likes to view the
world and its affairs from a
park bench, expressed the opin
ion to two passing American sol
diers while he was perched In
front of Hyde Park.

former Louisiana State Univer
sity president, had a state par
don today from Gov. James H.
Davis.
He was serving an eight to
24-year sentence after being con
victed of using university funds
for personal speculation.
Smith now must serve an 18
month federal sentence.
