The Beavers pounded three Oakland pitchers for 10 hits to push runs over in the third fourth, fifth and eighth Innings while the Acorns were limited to a pair of runs collected in the fifth Inning when veteran Bea ver Ad Liska blew up after foul no-hit innings. Riverside ICE John Heln, manager of Med ford Ice Arena, said yesterday plans are progressing for the big Ice carnival to be held here Fri day night, beginning at 7:45. A full evening of entertain ment will start with a masque rade with prizes of cash or script for the most original, best comic, most outstanding, best couple, best male and female skater and best skating couple. Only those in costume will be eligible to compete for prizes. Races will occupy a part of the program with participants grouped according to age. There will also be a servicemen's race. A broom ball game, which Is Dlayed rmivh the same as hockey but with a football and brooms, will be staged. Byrnes promised today less than three months after horse racing was "blacked out' in the United States, that the SDort will be permitted to re sume as soon as Germany is de feated. PAUL FREER 10 Cliff Proctor, president of the Medford Athletic Association, announced yesterday that Paul Freer will again manage the "Craters" baseball team. Freer took over management of the team last season when Don Ea ton was transferred from Med ford. Freer guided the team to the league championship, also vlnning the president's cup in the play-off. Freer said he will announce the first workout at the Fair grounds park soon and would like to have all players Inter ested In making the Crater squad turn out. HAGG UNABLE TO FILL RACE DATE T Promoter Mack Lillard said yesterday he is trying to rematch Pete Belcastro and the Gray Mask for next Thursday night's wrestling carl at Medford arm ory. Belcastro and Referee Earl Yoakley clashed in an impromr tu fracas In the dressing room after last week a match, in which Yoakley disqualified Belcastro The Mask joined In the mix which was broken up by other wrestlers. The Mask Is said to be willing to the rematch but Belcastro was holding out for a new referee. Lillard said If he is able to bring them together It will be no time limit and no rounds. Wilmington, Del., March 31 (U.R) The Philadelphia Phillies today acquired Vince DiMaggio, holdout centerfielder of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a straight player deal for pitcher Al Ger-heauser. DiMaggio, a long ball hitter who slumped badly at the plate last year, batting only .251, had asked to be traded. He got in bad with the Pittsburgh man agement in mid-season last year when he complained that the club's $4.50 dally meal allow ance was not enough. Detroit, March 31 (U.R) Welker Cochran, defending bil liard champion of San Francis co, won his first block in De troit play tonight, defeating Willie Hoppe of White Plains. N. Y , 60 to 50. The cue artists are on an east-west cross-country tournament. Both had high runs of seven In the 30-inning evening block. Cochran's first win in four De troit sessions, he now trails Hoppe by only 50 points. Hoppe's toial was 1,387 to 1,337 for the defending champion. Jantzer left the Community hospital at Medford March 27 and is convalescing at the home of her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George L. Jantzer Mrs. Marion Bean made a business trip to Klamath' Falls over the week-end. J. C. McGrew left this week for Alaska, where he is looking for employment and a place to live, and after he gets located, will be joined by Mrs. McGrew Mrs. Glenn Falrchild returned to her home here March 23, after spending nearly -three weeks with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kelly, at Grass Valley. Glenn Dole made a business trip to Bend, March 24. Cpl. Frances Ann Fracdrick of the Wacs is stationed in France now, according to word to her parents, Mr. and Mr?. E. E. Fraedrick, Jr., recently. Ann writes that they are billeted in what were the coal bins in the basement of a hotel, and have no outside windows or heat and have learned to bathe and wash clothes in cold water. Frank Doty, timber faller and bucker for the George L. Jant zer Lbr. Co., recently sold his Interest in the power chain aw to Paul Dalton and Elmer Clem ens, and together with his wife and two daughters, moved to Weiser, Idaho. Arthur F. Goode, who Is stay ing at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Clarence Gray at Medford, and taking treatments for his eyes is showing steady Improvement.
