" EIGHT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBTJHB Thursday. March 81. IMS Your Health and It's Care By DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M.D. Readers fbould address Inquiries toi Dr. William Brady. 265 El Camino. 8Trly Hllli. Calif. GIVE US A MENU . Ever half baked expert who manages to break Into print teems to derive satisfaction from m telling the be ll wildered pub- lie that It is foolish to take v i t a m I ns in any form un less your phy 1 e 1 a n pre s e r i b e a the specific vita mina and the specific 'doses' your cat re qulres. The self constitut Dr. Brady ' ed expert explains that if one . follows a fairly well balanced diet one will get all the vitamins ' one needs from foods -especial-- to frnm the protective foods. milk, eggs, cheese, fresh veget ables, greens, iresri iruiis, nuts and peanuts, beef, fresh pork mnA ham It sounds fine. But no matter what eminent specialist said It first, It is, after all, the cheapest grade of baloney. I lose no opportunity to sug gest or urge the daily 'consump- tnn nt nrntertivA foods, nartlcu larly milk, cheese, greens or salad vegetables. 1 believe a greatly increased per : capita consumption of these corrective protective foods would be a boon to the health of the country. - At the same time I know nd I'll back this with $100 If any one cares to take Issue with me the Red Cross to take all that It is practically impossible for an ordinary person to con sume the necessary quantities of the protective foods to supply what recognized nutrition au thorities consider the minimum daily ratlorrof vitamins for ade quate nutrition. ' ". ' This Is not Just my notion My assurance comes from a rec ognized authority, Prof. Norman Jolllffe, who estimated that In order to set even the amount of vitamin Bl, (930 International units) that has been lost during the past century as a result of refinement in milling of wheat one would have to consume a dally combination of 625 Gm of fruit, 600 Gm. of potatoes, 880 Our Men and Nation's UNDER NAZI FIRE ON ITALIAN FRONT : Sgt. Clyde D. Caffey of 415 Edwards street, Sgt. James W. Devon of 619 W. 2nd street, Cpl. William J. LaComb, son bt Mrs. Josephine LaBrun, 715 W. 13th street, Cpl. Paul J. Merfeld of 1109 W. Maine street, Cpl. Ralph W. VanDeMark of 1135 Court street,- all of Medi'ord, are members of the 316th Engineer Combat Battalion, which has been running into direct Ger man resistance as It carves out a route of advance for 5th army troops fighting toward Italy's Po Valley. , ; Jerry machlnegun fire was turned on the engineers as they filled a huge crater recently on a highway leading into Bologna, to enable tanks to advance. The men of the 316th finished the Job and fought their way out. They spent a night building road In advance of Infantry outposts near Futa I ass to en able doughboys to keep supplied with food and ammunition. The enemy concentrated artillery and mortar fire on them in a vain attempt to disciurage this work. SGT. JOHN BEIGHLER Wlin the Fifth Army, Italy Sgt John C. Belghler. whose wife resides at Gold Hill Is a member of the -347th Field Ar tillery Battallpn, which recently helped In the capture of heovily fortified Llvergnano on the 5th army front, a keystone In Ger many's defense of the Po Valley In Italy. SGT. JOE DUBUQUE CPL. IRA KARDORF SSgt. Joe F. Dubuque, whose wife lives at 406 N. Beatty ' YICK SO CHINESE HERB CO. TW .. - - - . . SttMl Removed to Sparta Bid. J. H. LEONO, Herbalist Phone 5817 OR PIPE DOWN Gm. of other vegetables and 1,- 260 cc. of milk. (Approximately 454 Gm. to a pound, 473 cc. to a pint). If you try to get all the vitamins you need from your well balanced diet some day, let me know when you get out of the hospital. - Another thing. The half-baked debunkers are fond of saying that our great grandparents got along pretty well without any knowledge of vitamins, and that is not far wrong our great grandparents got that dally 650 units of vitamin Bl, from the whole wheat and the old-fash ioned molasses and crude unre fined brown sugar they ate in their day there was no refined white flour, no refined white sugar, no refinery "molasses . If the self-contituted experts and the bright young "science editors" of Tom, Dick and Har ry's magazines are not Just kid ding about the "vitamin craze'' surely It should be easy for them to give us the menu for a day's meals which will supply all the vitamins one needs. I re peat, for such knowledge I'll contribute as stipulated to the Red Cross or other philanthropy my teacher indicates. , . QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Old 1. B.
