TWO MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Tuesday, March V, 1943 Your Health and It's Care fir DR. WILLIAM BRADY, M.D. Readers ihould addross inquiries tot Dr. William Brady, . 265 El Camlno, Beverly Hills. Calif. WHATI N I am following the regimen outlined in your pimphUt ("How to Lose Weight" mailed on request u you provide a tamped en velope bearing your address please do not not use clipping of this item In lieu of your request) and I am get ting results slowly . . (8. I. F.) Or. Bradr The corres pondent does not say how much he or she has reduced in body weight or bulk or measurements or both in c month, but from the correspondent's letter I infer that ho or she, like most obese, is disappointed if the slacker flesh does not melt away at least ten times as fast as it accumu lated in the first place. That childish wish for magical re duction to or nearly to the Ideal by 11 o'clock next week is the bait that catches so many suck ers for 18-day diets and similar Hollywood hokum. ' Take It easy, folks. Remem ber, I'm Just a plodding door-to- door practitioner, not an eminent specialist r.ot a "food specialist, not a diet specialist, Just an ordinary doctor. If you follow the regimen, plan, program, rou tine or diet instructions I give in the pamphlet mentioned you may hope to reduce at the rate of a pound or two a week, some weeks and In some instances perhaps from two to five pounds, depending on your con ditlon and the degree to which you adhere to the instructions, If the prospect of reducing a pound or two or even three pounds a week does not appeal to you, then don't write now, fatty, but I'm afraid your case la hopeless. i The correspondent continues: How about whole milk? Is milk fattening? (S. I. F.) . A glassful (half pint) of milk yields 160 calories, compared with lamb chop 300 calories, n apple 100 calories, an egg 73 calories, four ounces (one-fourth pound) of roast beef 300 calo ries, a teaspoonful of sugar 30 calories, small potato 100 calories or a nut fudge sundae COUNTY BASEBALL LEAGUE PLANNED I. X. McKInney, secretary of tha Medford Athletic association, announced today that the asso ciation is endeavoring to form a baseball league from towns In Rogue river valley, McKInney said letters have been written to Interested per sons in Ashland and Grants Pass and when answers are received from them a meeting will be called to form the league. The Cheney Lumber company in Central Point is said to have already formed a team and sev eral other towns in the county are considering the possibilities. The teams will no doubt be composed mainly of high school boys and a few "old timers," McKInney said, but will go a long way to keep the game alive in the valley and to aid in de velopment of the youngsters. Anyone Interested In organiz ing a team or desiring further details is asked to get in touch With McKinney, 637 Austin street, telephone Medford 2507. Sport Chips Msis Harry Chipman Mall Trlbui.e Sports Editor A nice postwar sports picture ts in the offing for Medford if local promoters and enthusiasts start laying the groundwork now. A Medford entry in the Oregon state baseball league, which Is a certainty to be re formed, will bring top notch semi-pro ball to Medford. Mid get auto races, at the height of their popularity when war broke out, could undoubtedly be brought back to Medford. It Is known that Mack Llllard Is planning to bring boxing back as soon as fighters are available. Ha plans to uta top men on the coast and might even continue tils weekly wrestling cards to give Medford the best available la both sports. John Hein, manager of the Medford Ice Arena, says coast hockey teams could be induced BY V' j isunkaassvj O MILK? 410 calories. A glassful of but termilk yields 80 calories, or skim milk (milk from which cream has been removed), or separator milk (milk retraining after fat has been removed by the separator.) Both buttermilk and skim milk or separator milk are thus Just half as nourishing as whole milk, so far as calories go, but in mineral nutrients and vitamins (B-complex and par ticularly B2, G or riboflavin, they are virtually equivalent to whole fresh milk In the diet. Is milk fattening? The answer is yes and no and'or either. It would be hard to get fat on a diet of milk alone It Is too bulky even 3000 calories a day, which many persons require for maintenance of normal weight and strength, would call for con sumption of more than a gallon of milk. On the other hand, as you will find In the pamphlet "How to Gain Weight" for copy send stamped envelope bearing your address, but do not use a clip ping In lieu of your request any one who will take a pint of milk or even a glassful (half- pint) with a slice of whole wheat bread and butter or oleomar garine with or without sugar or Jelly or marmalade or Jam, each night at bedtime, will readily put oa from 10 to 20 pounds In a year. This bedtime snack, of course, is supplementary to the ordinary daily meals. Dine Co.) to stop off here for exhibition games if and when the Southern Pacific gives us through train service between Portland and San Francisco. Ice shows could also be brought to the Medford ice If decent travel connections through here could be made. Medford Is also big enough, or will be when the war Is over, according to planning optimists, to support an occasional football game between professional coast teams. Joseph Behoff of Tacoma writes us he is planning to form a professional basketball league in the northwest. He plans to bring big-time basketball teams to the northwest and give every large city weekly attractions of the best teams in the country. Behoff would like to get in touch with - players, coaches, managers, promoters, sponsors and others who are interested. He may be contacted at 619 South Kay street, Tacoma. The fairgrounds park might even be fixed over to accom modato occasional horse or dog racing meets. The southern Oregon country Is bound to become a mccca for tho postwar hunter and fisher man. One sporting goods store In Ashland is planning to hove a fleet of cars and guides to take visiting fishermen and hunters to likely spots in southern Ore gon. Local horsemen are not plan ning to let the annual rodeo die out because of the war and this event will undoubtedly become bigger and better in the- post war era. Medford will probably never become big enough to support a steady diet of blg-tlme sports, but It Is our guess the town will be big enough to lend its share 800 Newsmen To Cover Security Confab in S.F. The captain wrote that the club had been built near the edge of a river, was of native woods and decorated in red and white, the battalion colors. The battalion was stationed at C?mp White for more than a year, leaving here in March of 1944, and the officers regularly par ticipated in tha Medford Out post's recreation program during those months.
