First fall went to the Mask In the second round with the half crab and he took the second and the match In the fifth with head butts and a press which left Ross bleeding at the mouth. Ross' lone fall came In the fourth stanza with a grapevine hold. Pete Belcastro lost the first fall in his go with Ernie Piluso but went on to take the next two and the bout. Georges Du- sette, who was kept in trouble most of the time by Billy Mc- Euin, came up with the only fall of the match in the third round. Vern Calhoun, who was to have met Dick Boatwright in a grudge match, failed to appear. Date Dear- Two new places of business are being added to those on North Central avenue this week. A sixth store of the Leon chain, selling women's clothing, was opened here Tuesday at 21 North Central avenue, and Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Purucker are reopen ing their music store at 111 North Central avenue tomorrow. Puruckers have been out of business for the past two years since closing their West Main street store. The weatherman announced that spring officially arrived Tuesday at 4:58 p. m., but the skies continued to drop rain, re gardless. However, fields are green, dafodils in bloom and the first Chinook salmon of the year was landed at Grants Pass Mon day, so maybe it really Is spring, The new little theater group here presented the Red Cross a check for $537 this week, pro ceeds from their first play, "Deadlier Than the Male." The play, with its all-woman cast, was a thriller with Nazi spies and gun-toting FBI gals and was hugely enjoyed by the audience, Another of those "chance" meetings between servicemen far from home was In the news this week, this one being be tween Bryan Yorton, pharma cist's mate on an LST, and Pfc. Louis P. Kurz, army engineer, on one of the Philippine Islands. Pvt. Lloyd Ehrk recently ar rived In the Philippines for ac tion and wrote home to aay it was pretty wet and he hoped he didn't stay long. His brother, Pfc. Keith C. Ehrk, has been in France for six months. Pvt. Wal lace H. Woods has left for over seas duty and his father, Major Harold Woods, has been In India with the army for about two years. One of those freed from the Philippine prison camp, Caban tuan, Sgt. William E. Davis has arrived in Medford to spend two months with his father. Sgt. Davis was on Corregidor when the islands fell. Expected home soon is Cpl. Lome B. Cox, also released from the same prison. The men have been at Letter man hospital In San Francisco for check-ups and both reported to be in fair condition. Home after their tours of over seas duty are Robert Wolff, Mo MMIe, who spent 29 months In the South Pacific; Clinton C. Neeley, Snlo, who spent 11 months overseas; Cpl. Nels A. Soderlund, home after 37 months In the Southwest Pacific theater; Bill Colley, coxswain, who serv ed 18 months in the South Pa cific, Sgt. J. C. Wilson, home after 41 months overseas duty with the marine corps, and Lt. Thomas P. Davidson, who served with the Seventh air force 'n the Pacific for the past year. Overseas news brings word of Sgt. 'Howard Denzer, who is serving with a heavy automotive maintenance unit In France which recently set a repair rec ord. William A. Townes has been promoted to technician fifth grade at an Eighth air force bomber station in England and the unit of Cpl. Alden R. Wright, also in England, set an all-time record at their modification han gar for which the men were commended recently. IV Est. Hubert A. Santo was killed in action in the Philippines recently. Sgt. Santo had served overseas since December of 1941, when he arrived in Hawaii, served on Guadalcanal and wore the silver star for action on Munda. The Philippine battle was his sixth major engage ment. Pfc. Ivan O. Chambers of Ashland was killed Feb. 19 on Iwo Jima. Major Edwin R. Durno has been awarded the purple heart for wounds received in Belgium in December. Staff Sgt. Stout, who has returned to Columbus, Miss., for further training after a graduation leave at home. Latest-weddings are those of Lt. Donald Gillespie and Nancy Lewis Harris of Norfolk, Va.; Pfc. Ned R. Liebman and Vir ginia Clay, the bride being from Parsons, Kan.; and Valla Vee Vandagrlft and Phillip Beers; Lt.
