Thomas Brown of Oakland Calif., was best man. ,, Lt. and Mrs. Gillespie made a j, wedding trip to Washington, D. if C, and New York and then went to Providence, Ft. I., where the t groom is temporarily stationed t at Quonsct Point. Lt. Gillespie who returned six months ago I from a year's duty in the South I Pacific with the naval air corps, has again been assigned to over- I ' seas duty. BUY WAR BONDS m Medford Soldier Married Recently In Modesto Rites The wedding of Miss Virginia Clay, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Clay of Parsons, Kan., to Pfc. Ned R. Llebman of Medford took place Wednesday, March 7, at Modesto, Calif. Pfc. Liebman is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Liebman, Route 1. The service took place in the chapel of Hammond hospital at Modesto and was read by the Rev. William H. Baird, former pastor of the First Christian church ' here. Miss Clay was given in marriage by her father. Attendants were Mrs. C. T. Day, Vacaville, Calif., a sister of the bride, and Pfc. Joe Smith, who was best man for the groom. Following the service a wed ding dinner was served at the Modesto hotel and later the bride and groom left for a wedding trip to Santa Cruz. Mrs. Liebman, a graduate of the University of Kansas, is a laboratory technician at Ham mond hospital. The groom a graduate of Medford high school later attended the University of Oregon and has been in service two years. He also it a labora tory technician at the hospital. M. DEPT. STORE Miss Vandagrift Married Tuesday To Phillip Beers Among recent weddings was that of Miss Valla Vee Vanda grift, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Vandagraift, 417 North Oakdale avenue, to Phillip A. Beers, son of Mrs. Amy Beers of Thomas Road. The service was read Tuesday evening at the home of the bride's parents by the Rev. Louis C. Kirby. The bride's wedding costume was an orchid colored suit and she wore a corsage of gardenias. Her attendant, Mrs. C. C. Cowan, wore a green suit and a corsage of roses. Mr. Cowan was best man for the groom. Following the ceremony wed ding refreshments were served, with the bride and groom cut ting the first slice of wedding cake. Mrs. Eugene Pixler com pleted the cutting and Mrs. A. O. Floyd poured. The Vandagrift honr had been arranged with yellow and orchid flowers for the service. . Mr. and Mrs. Beers left Thurs day for San Diego where the groom will report for special training with the navy. He re cently returned home after 17 months overseas duty as a sound man second class with the navy. Both Mr. and Mrs. Beers at tended the Medford schools. Annual Birthday Meeting Is Held By Church Guild Members and friends of Cra ter Lake guild, Presbyterian church, met- in the fireplace room Monday evening for the an nual birthday meeting and party. Spring buds and potted primroses decorated the room and the table supporting a rus tic "wishing well" holding the birthday offerings depicted a springtime woodland scene. A nominating committee was appointed by the president, Mrs. Paul Bulkin, for the coming elec tion and Mrs. W. E. Tumy, foun der and sponsor of the group,, gave devotionals. Miss Jean Farley, accompan ied by Miss Phyllis Furry, sang several selections and Mrs. Dolph Phipps of the Jackson County League of Women Vot ers, speaker for the evening, gave facts and Illustrations on the Dumbarton Oaks conference. An interesting discussion devel oped. Refreshments, served by Mrs. A. B. Corbet, Mrs. Ethel Covers tone and Miss Florence Erbes, were in the St. Patrick's Day theme. Medford Woman Is Named Queen Zuleima Temple Mrs. Harry Nordwick of Med ford was named queen of Zulei ma Temple, Daughters of the Nile, at a meeting held In Ash land last Saturday. Mrs. William Ehrman was named vice-president and Mrs. Clarence P. Talbot, Jr.. secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Walker, Treece was named chairman . of the calling committee and Mrs. C. R. Holm gren chairman of the social com mittee with Mrs. Sam Schlankey as assistant. Plans were made for display ing trophies and souvenirs sent from overseas by husbands of members in a special Red Cross window at Mann's Department store next week and a number of articles were displayed. The eve ning closed with bridge. This new service and social group has members participating in numerous projects. Twelve members have Joined a group which makes surgical dressings for the Camp White hospital, several have aided with the Red Cross war fund drive and many were on the staff of the recent little theater benefit play. Other projects are being planned. Business Women Contest Winners; Visitors Honored Announcement was made at a meeting of the Medford Busi ness and Professional Women s club Wednesday evening that the local club had won the state membership contest In its classi fication. The contest closed Jan uary 1. Speakers at the meeting were Miss Olice Huston, field service director of the National Federa tion who it in the west visiting various clubs, Mrs. Mabel Mack, Corvallis, state membership chairman, who made the contest announcement, and Mrs. Isabelle Brixner, district chairman from Klamath Falls. Subject of Miss Huston's ad dress was "Stabilizing Member ship" and she stated that the present membership of the na tional B. P. W. C. is 83,000. She urged her listeners to organize strongly for their part in post war planning. The high school sextette, un der the direction of Miss Mabel Nansen, sang four numbers. A dinner honoring Miss Hus ton was given by the Medford executive council at the Hotel Holland prior to the meeting at the Girls' Community club. In addition to the national, state and district officers, members of the executive councils of Klam ath Falls and Grants Pass clubs were present. During the dinner Miss Huston was presented with a gift of a myrtlewood vase by the Medford club. Couple Honored At Open House . Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nordwick entertained few close friends Monday evening at an open house party which- honored Capt. and Mrs. Robert E. Young Capt. and Mrs. . Young left Thursday for El Centro, Calif., where the captain reported for reassignment in the marine corps. Capt.
