LOCAL and Leaves Mrs. Jessie Muir left last evening by train for Los Angeles and other points In southern Oregon. She plans to be away several weeks. On Leave Frank C. Clark. ZM3'c. Is home on 24 days leave after 18 months with the navy. Clark is stationed on a battle ship and has seen action in the Marianas, Suriago Straits in the Philippines and Lingayen Gulf. Soldier VUitor Cpl. Jim Baldwin is visiting at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Ralph Spencer, 23 Vancouver avenue, en route to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Baldwin, at their home on Cave highway. Cpl. Baldwin is on furlough from Camp Bowie, Texas. Cameron Home Donald Cameron, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cameron, Central Point, is home on a 30-day leave after having served overseas 13 months. Cameron is a gunner's mate on an LST and participated in the D-Day invasion of France. Need Apartments Twenty service couples and families ap plied at the Riverside USO this morning for apartment listings and none are available, staff members stated this noon. It was urged that anyone having an apartment to rent list it at the USO at once since the need is critical. Team to Salem Miss Barbara Compton, public speaking, teach er at Medford high school, took the 'public speaking debate team to Salem yesterday to compete in the state-wide contest being held there. Bob Boyer, Bill Moffat,' Jerry Igo, and Bill Hed rick are the members of Med ford's team. Wives To Meet Members' of the Local Officers' Wives club will meet at the Outpost tomor row evening at 7:30 o'clock for dessert, a business meeting and brdige. Members are to bring gifts -and souvenirs sent" from overseas to be used for a Red Cross display window at Mann's Department store next week. - Home From Navy Boyd C. Kline, MaM3c, arrived in Med ford Tuesday morning with his wife, Ltla Kline, and daughter, Sandra. Kline Is stationed at the fleet post office in San Francisco. The Klines will be in Medford for 15 days and are staying with Mr. and Mrs. John Lay, 245 South Central avenue. Chaplin Leaves Charles A. Chaplin, AAMM, left for San Diego recently after spending 15-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chaplin of Derby. He has Just completed training at Banana River, Fla., and is a plane crew captain on a patrol plane. HOUSE CLEANING Traffic Accident A 1940 au tomobile driven by G. M. Davis, Talent, was completely demol ished when Davis applied the brakes, skidded, and overturned one-half mile north of Ruby's Kitchen on the South Pacific highway, according to an acci dent report filed last Monday. Reese Creek Sunday school I plans to have an Easter program April 1. Everyone is welcome. Reese Creek Home Extension unit met at Margarett Garden er's home March 6. The unit will meet at Mrs. Robert Hum phrey's place April 3. Every one is asked to attend. MEETING FRIDAY The semi-monthly meeting of the board of directors of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will be held Friday noon at the chamber's offices and dining room, with all mem bers of the organization invited to attend. Among guests who will attend will be David Craig representative of the U. S. De partment of Justice from Wash ington, D. C, and Floyd J. Ep penbaugh, agent for the division of vocational education, state board of education.
